Targa dead pedal
I have dead pedals mounted on my 914-6s, and would like to install one on my newly acquired 84 Carrera Targa. As the footwell blowers seem to take up an awful lot of space in the footwell, I wondered if anyone has experience with which one seems to fit best?
It's hard enough getting my size 13 feet inside as it is, but I do like a good surface to rest my left foot when not shifting. Thanks!

I have the rennline dead pedal in my 88 targa. Made to fit 3.2 targa because of the footwell blowers. Relatively easy install. Pelican sells them I believe. A necessary addition. Not much room down there which necessitates your being doubly aware of your foot when shifting.

How about using a repro of the original dead pedal.
I do not know if it will fit your Targa, but I hope this picture helps. Pelican sells those. ![]() Some pictures how it looks in my car. I installed it to high, three inches lower would be perfect I think. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Dead pedal
That's the one I have in my 914-6 ( been that way since 1977). The Rennline one looks like it should work, but I wonder if it's worth the extra to get the rubber surfaced one, or just stay with the plain aluminum one.

The PO had installed a dead pedal in my Targa. My feet aren't large (10 1/2) but I found the dead pedal to be too close to the clutch. I kept catching the edge of my foot on it when I went to clutch, so I removed it.

Use the Rennline. Why re-invent the wheel? Just be careful when drilling the lower holes(no matter what pedal you chose). Where the inner fender bulge meets the floor, there is a power wire. I think it may be the main power feed from the battery. If you drill into it, your drill bit will glow red. Ask me how I know. LOL.

My shoes are 12 wide. Again, you must be a bit more aware of your foot position when shifting. I am used to it now. I am much happier with the pedal than without. I got the pedal without the rubber. Don't see any need for it.

Size 11 WIDE. Never had a problem with the clutch/dead pedal placement. Osso, you are still new to the 911 gig, so just give it some time to get used to the pedal placement. As you get more confidence, I will bet the farm that you'll want that dead pedal back. I know I totally rely on it to keep me placed in the seat during hard cornering.
One good tip: Don't wear clunky shoes in the 911. Boat shoes are perfect in that the thin soles allow you to get an almost perfect pedal feel.

Tried the replica factory dead pedal, but didn't like the fit in my Targa (though it works great in my 914-6) Does the Rennline pedal sit at the same level as the clutch pedal? I do like having a dead pedal to rest my left foot, and the little flat section on the wheel well in a Targa is pretty narrow.

Retired, finally

I tried two different dead pedals (don't remember which ones) and never found one that fit well in my 84 911 Targa (R.I.P), so I ended up fabbing one.

I have a cab and learned there is a definite difference between the original one above (made for coups) and the Rennline version made specifically for cabs and Targas. The fit and feel of the Rennline is perfect for me (size 12) and my car. The floor in the area of where the pedal goes requires different geometry to establish an equivalent flush surface with the rest of the pedals compared the coups.
