Vortex effect

Hi Guys and ladies,

Just a question if anyone has tried one of those devices that fit within the air box and disrupts the air flow in such a way that is suppose to create a vortex like air movement.

I had an an old CAMRY wagon ('87) and fitted one to it. There was a noticeable improvement in power. (and yes it was pretty ordinary to start with so before anyone jumps in a good wash and polish probably made it go faster too :) )

I wondered if anyone had tried it?

A quick search through the forum did not find anything but then again I only spent 10 mins......

was youre camry carburated? Id say it depends on the car and how the intake is designed. I dont think fuel injected cars would benefit because the fuel is already well atomized by the injectors and squirting directly at the valve. It doesnt have to travel through the intake

Snake oil. Don't believe what people say about "felt" improvements. Including yourself. The science is not there. if they worked all the car companies would use them. If you believe in that stuff, I can sell you a system to add water to your fuel to increase gas mileage. Or was it a magnet that you wrap around the fuel line to increase mileage.

Just be sure not to put in an Australian vortex system... it will make things far worse north of the equator.

Vortex is just a buzz word. It's the placebo effect that is at work here.

Eh, personally I think it's snake oil as well. You will get noticeable increases from a Fabspeed airbox and a BMC filter, that's all the bolt on intake work these cars need IMO.

Its not completely snake oil. Like I said depends on the engine. My 1946 willys jeep has one built into the carb gasket and it runs like crap without it.

Your money will be in a vortex like the electric Turbo kit. :D But I do like the Turbo exhaust tip whistle :P

The best boost for HP is losing weight from the car, like the spare if you have road side service, lighter battery, removing rear seats, the bumperretes, car mats, so on.

Oh, you mean like THIS one I found in my used Subaru Outback?

1) K&N Filter stickers are NEVER a good sign in my opinion.
B) What's this? It's an Alabama "Turbulatornado"! I guess the instructions failed to tell the installer to make sure and remove the BLUE PLASTIC COATING!
3) Geeeez o Pete.......they didn't even make sure the snorkulus tube fit the MAF sensor assembly correctly. No wonder it ran like cr*p until I rescued it!

I wound up keeping it below the toolbox for "show and tell".

Hi Guys,

It was asked earlier and the Camry it did make a difference in was fuel injected. I am as skeptical as the next person but it was noticeable. I had one installed on an 1999 Camry and did not feel any difference. I just wondering if for an older car (say for instance before the 964) would it make a difference.
