Targa Top Fixed Pins?

Anyone ever replace the two front "fixed" pin on a Targa top? Mine move around a bit and can't be tightenede or loosened, at least not withjout really excessive force. i'm sure that they are rusted. Does the pin just screw into the flat nut behinds the aluminium panels inside the top?

Dan,

I doubt that rust is the problem, since all of the pins I have seen and replaced have been aluminum! And, yes, replacement is easy! If the pins have been loose and vibrating/rattling around for awhile ... the threaded portion may have been damaged, and thus, the male threads may not fit the captive nut part correctly now.

Warren,

Thanks for the follow up on my question. So am I correct in presuming they do just unscrew or is there a trick of some sort that I should know? I just hate this kind of working in the blind stuff.

Put some WD-40 to the pin bottoms, turn them a bit, then turn them back. More WD-40, then turn back and forth. The pin and the nut if memory serves are both alum. so you are dealing with like metal corrosion. Keep at it, very fine pitch threads.

If you must, peel back the top material and some framework to get to the rearside square captive nut.

When you put the new ones in, use antiseize. Be sure to let them float a bit sideways so they find their "place" with the roof on. Then tighten them up. A bit of grease silences them and helps them find their location as well.
