Radio Wiring Help
Apparently somewhere along the way someone chopped the radio wiring harness for my 1988 930. I haven't been running a radio but just picked up a CDR-220 that I'm going to try and hook up. The pics below show what I believe to be my radio wiring (minus the antenna which was pretty easy to identify.
Can anyone suggest a resource that would help me identify which wires do what so that i can appropriately mate them up with the wires for the 220? Thanks, ![]() ![]()

See if this link helps: 1989 Porsche 911 Car Radio Wire Color Codes
I have a 220 on the shelf waiting to go in my '89....currently has a blaupunkt radio so when I change it over I can trace the wires and take notes. But I'm pretty sure someone else will chime in and give an exact answer first! Last edited by Scbrindley; 06-18-2015 at 05:49 PM.. |

Actually spent some time on the phone with SW Stereo where I purchased the CDR-220. He walked me through the wires I need. Basically the second picture has the constant power (red), switched power (green) and ground (brown). The only other connections are the antenna and booster. The speakers are being wired outside of the loom. Unfortunately though it seems as though I don't have power to these wires. Hooked everything up and no go with the head unit.
May need to suck it up and have a professional run a new constant line and then tap into a switched line somewhere although I'm concerned that the radio may pull too much power through whatever line it gets tapped into.

SGO,
Sorry your wires aren't live. For what it's worth this is a great help to me. Stefan has the face plate for my CDR-220 right now and I'll be facing this precise issue when I ditch the PO's Pioneer Bling O Rama 2000 head unit. SW has been very helpful in the past with another 911 I converted to the Becker unit. thanks for saving me a call. Scott

That's why I figured I'd post the follow up. Good luck

Hopefully you'll enjoy the '220
I hide my aux cable in the ash tray when not in use. Works great for the odd times i listen to music or talk. ![]()

eagerly anticipating that I will. I've really come to think these are a great looking unit in the older cars. Great idea on stashing the aux-in in the ash tray.
Need to figure out the wiring issue. I've got the following plan to resolve but would appreciate any thoughts from anyone that is good with wiring: 1. Speakers: I'm only going to be running the door speakers for now. Found where the wires are located in the front kick panels on the other side of the door jam - plan to simply wire directly to these from the Becker wiring harnerss. 2. Constant Power: Planning to run a wire direct from the battery. Do I need to worry about some sort of an inline fuse? Any concerns about tapping directly to the positive terminal of the battery? 3. Switched Power: Planning to run a wire directly from the bottom side of the fuse panel wiring into the Radio fuse: 4. Ground: Going to run a new ground wire to the chassis in the frunk seeing as I'm already going to have a couple of new wires coming in and through the firewall anyways. 5. Antenna: Not worried here. Have the adapter and what not already.
