Good job!!!!!!

Michael,

You did all the work and you should get the credit for doing it well. All we did was share our different experiences with you. Enjoy driving the car now.

Tony

Hello, another small snag, the replacement fuel pump is too big to fit where the original came from.Does anyone know the right order to assemble the original? {my mate dismantled it without noting how it went!] Regards,Michael.

Anyone have a photo of a test tank they used to start up a CIS motor ?

and has anyone built one that mounts where the stock tank sits so you can drive around the block for testing ?

I normally run a gallon can of fuel with some cleaner in it , use a 12v pump and run it thru the fuel lines in the chassis , maybe 5 times to clean the old fuel junk out, add a LARGE fuel filter on the end and pump to another gallon car , repeat repeat repeat

Michael

Well done for resurrecting the car. 20 yrs.

I'm just in the process of starting my own CIS journey with my 76 sporto. So been reading up. I'm in Canberra, so wouldn't mind dropping past your place, for a bit of a chat if I don't get the car running sweet in the next cpl weeks.

Sent you a pm. Cheers Michel

Originally, the fuel pump for 75 cars was in the rear, under the left side passenger seat. Later, Porsche moved the pump to the front, protected by the skid plate, attached to the front beam, on the right side. Now might be a good time to consider the move for your new pump. This is an "upgrade" that many early car owners do as "pushing" fuel to the rear is easier on the pump than "pulling", the pump stays cooler because it's away from the engine heat, and should you have a vacuum break in the system (a bad fuel accumulator, for example), the pump will not suck air as it is now next to the tank and below the fuel level so gravity will always put fuel to the pump.

If you choose to go this route, there are several ways to attach the pump to the beam. Do a search or ask directly as someone will surely post a link.

Ossiblue, [has that got anything to do with Aus?] I was trying to keep as much as I could original on the '73, but what you say makes sense so I will have a look at that. I don't know how to look for a thread on the subject apart from looking at the lot! Thank you, regards,Michael.

Ed...That link to the mfi pump will be handy if I need to go that far at a later date. The pump end is not like the cis pump at all so I have re-assembled mine as in your photo hoping it is in the working position.will now go and give it a try..Pity I have disconnected the gauges, but will see if car starts.....Regards,Michael.

Hello.....Well by duplicating the pump in Ed's photo [after my second proper look] I now have a running car on it's ORIGINAL pump.Guess who is happy. Thanks Ed. Regards,Michael.

Hello, Well it has been asleep (mostly) for another 8 years. I am now in the process of trying to get it going again. Will report back soon. Regards, Michael.

E Sully 06-19-2025 03:12 PM

I see you haven't been to the forum in a few years.
Any luck getting it running again?
