915 shift sloppy all of a sudden...

Hi, have a JWest Rennshift that i installed, with new bushings, etc., no more than 15k miles (~5 years) ago. Shifted great until recently when tons of side to side slop entered the equation, even when in each gear.
Does this sound like a coupler falling apart? and if so, does that even make sense given how little mileage?
Thanks,
Christian

Either the coupler or one of the bushings.

Seems to be an epidemic of coupler failures lately.

Not familiar with the Rennshift but looking at some pictures it seems the shift lever is held in place with some set screws. Any chance the screws came loose?

Thanks for the replies all.
Good question Pete...I was just gonna order a new coupler (seemed the likely culprit), but now i guess i better have a look inside before i do that...
Thanks again,
Christian

coupler or shifter select shaft bushings. They seem to age out rather than mileage out.

The round bushing that supports the shaft, just behind the shifter.

Thanks Mike.
Pete knocked it out of the park though...and I'm the fool. Pulled up the boot to find that the two metric screws holding the stalk in place had gradually come loose. A very simple fix and thank you for the suggestion!
Though I am now in love with the JWest coupler and sleeve and may just do that for the heck of it.
Thanks to all the Pelican brains as usual,
Christian

I purchased a used RennShift shifter and noticed the shift lever must have came loose at some time, there were marks on the stub shaft from the two set screws loosening. I found the stub shaft was about .010'' undersize compared to the inside diameter of the shift lever. So I used .004 shim stock to make the shift lever fit snug on the stub shaft. Then I used lock tight on the set screws.
