Seeking advice on proper adjustment of new clutch cable (non-Omega 915)

Hi,

I put in a new clutch and clutch cable. All the literature I have found regarding the adjustment of the clutch cable relate to the omega spring style 915. My '74 is the pre-omega style.

It seems like something is off as my cable is at full tight to get the clutch pedal to be fully out.

Any advice would be great. Also, the tunnel tube is fully intact so there is no slipping there. I also think that I have the trunin (if that's what it's called) at the pedal is fully screwed on.

One more thing, if anyone has a photo of the clutch end of the cable that shows how much it is typically threaded, that would be great. I currently have mind threaded almost to the end of the threads and this, to me, seems like there is no more adjustment available if the cable stretches over time.

Here is a shot of mine. It follows what is shown in the owner's manual.

It seems that mine is the opposite. The adjusting nuts are all the way out at the end of the threads, so all I can do is tighten it up.

It's also a '74, and the cable is from Pelican. Go figure.

would there be any advantage to considering forward dating it to the omega spring type? other than is the cable you already have as new will not saddle up? and the task in sourcing the parts for the "upgrade". yir a pelican, get it done..

You need to re-index your release arm on the splined shaft.

I may do that some day id I can figure out how and source the parts. If anything, this would make the clutch feel better (less truck like).

If I understand you correctly, this means that I need to pull the snap ring and then the clutch arm (at the trans & in the photo above) and move it a couple of splines). This makes sense to me. My only question is....will it all stay together when I remove that arm? I don't want to pull the engine again.

Thanks all!

It will stay together, but remember to wedge something under the clutch pedal so that it doesn't go bang when you back off the adjusting nuts. I just did this on my '74.

BTW, I like the clutch's feel. Truck like?

Can the earlier 'non-Omega spring' 915 transmissions be updated to the later style? The 915 in my 914-6 does not have an Omega spring and it feels much stiffer than my '84 911 Targa's transmission.

Am I reading it that its too long?.Did you get one of the one size fits all clutch cables? Wasn't there a thread on here a month ago in regards to cables being shipped that are way to long?
Can you snap a pic of both ends.
There is no reason to go to the omega spring setup, the stock system works just fine if adjusted properly, its not hard at all. Grow some muscles..
The clutch arm should be perpendicular, if you change this be careful, one spline equals more than you can imagine.
