I’m in the process of rebuilding my wastegate and I have a couple questions.
What is the difference, in length, between a stock spring and a 1 BAR spring? Which is shorter? I currently have two springs at my disposal, one is roughly 7 ½” in length and the other is roughly 6 ¾”. What is the difference between a Porsche wastegate with a ventilation port on top and one without? How do you set the plunger depth and how accurate must this be? I want to thank everybody who has helped me out with my on going project. I have leaned an incredible amount about Porsche’s from asking questions on this board. You have all been very helpful and courteous. |

Hey, if you don't need your old spring i'll be glad to help you get rid of it.
I'm going to "deboost" my 930 from 1.0 bar to 0.7 and need OEM spring (for reliability reasons)... i can swap my 1.0-bar spring for 0.7-bar spring if somebody's interested. Line on the top of W/G-bell is just venting line and it's there to prevent maggots, dirt and moisture crawling into WG-bell. Yeah, it's possible to take it of w/o problems. It's just a pipe venting to athmosphere. P.S. Is it hard to install new spring? Do i need to detach whole W/ G assembly inclusive valve or is it enough to unbolt six(?) bolts holding the "bell"? Is it hard to put it back? Thanx! |

the 1bar spring is shorter and the wire is larger. take it out and clamp the cast base in a vise with the aluminum top facing your chest. remove all but 2 nuts on opposite sides. fold a few shop rags for padding and push hard with your chest as the nuts are removed together so as not to allow the top to go sideways and break a stud. the spring is tight but as long as you control it with your chest it won't fly apart. reassemble in reverse order.
