Gaskets for flush mounting rear 1/4 windows - 964/993?
Hi,
I am looking to flush-mount the rear 1/4 windows but not in a way I have seen before. I am sure someone has done this, or if someone can help with measurements of their 964 or 993 1/4 gaskets then that would be very helpful. A bit of background maybe; this is a 1978 that is being fully molested into what I want it to be, in this case a lightweight car with some personal touches I like (others will not I am sure.) A theme throughout the body of the car is a. backdated and b. smoothing of edges. The the second point, I have shaved the rails, flush-mounted the rear window in Makrolan, removed the sunroof and am now working on a solution for having the rear 1/4 windows sit as flush to the roofline and down, as much as possible. The window itself will be makrolan, so I can cut it any size I want. I want the seal to be weather/windproof so the usual path of screwing the lexan to some tabs or the old crimp/spotweld flange wont work for me. While a great solution for a racecar, this isnt what I want to do: ![]() Here is a thread with some of those kind of solutions: 1/4 window race car examples What I am working towards and could use some measurements or corroboration is to; 1. Cut off the old flange that the stock 1978 window deals mounted on. Of course weld them up and clean them off. 2. Weld in a new flange around the circumference of the window opening 1/8" inboard of the outer body edge. 3. Use a 993/964/997/991/0ther OEM seal mounted in the new flange and mount my makrolan window in that. 4. End up with a seal that mounts as close to flush with the body along the front B pillar/top/back to the "hairpin" corner in back, and about 1" outboard of the stock window. Ideally I could do the metalwork as described, then with my (Pelican ordered!) OEM seal put it all together. Here is what I mean on the bottom...yellow gets cut and removed, new flange out in the direction of the red arrow. Ignore those ugly welds, those were my first attempt, I got better... ![]() I dont have my 993 anymore so I cant make my own comparisons but here are some pics of what I believe are an unmolested 993 with examples. I know I cant kick the bottom out too far as it wont then line up with the door window seals, but I am willing to adjust those seals out a touch too. ![]() ![]() I would be very appreciative if anyone can say if this is possible, not possible with what I suggest but has alternatives, etc. Thanks!

I used 993 gaskets with Lexan rear side windows with no problem on my SC. No moulding, nice and clean

Hi Mike, thanks for the response.
Did you put the windows in the stock location? My guestimate is that the rubber would need to be 1.5 inches longer around to fit the window opening when it if mounted further outbound? Do you have a pic? Thanks!

Hi Guys,
I have welded in the B-pillar section of the flange on both sides, I am now getting ready to place an order for a bunch of Pelican stuff and need to know if 993 or 964 gaskets might fit. Or even 996/997/991. Could I please ask if people with access to a 964, 993, 996, 997 or 991 could take two measurements for me of their rear quarter windows? Here are the measurements I am looking for, to the edge of the seal. Thanks! This is from an SC...asking for all of hte above models if possible! ![]()
