Alarm Bypass - help please
My 89 has the factory alarm without the key in the door. I may have a short or issue with the control unit. The alarm horn went beserk last night while I was out for a ride. Not fun - actually mostly embarrassing. I don't really want to troubleshoot this now while the weather is good. I read an old post on Pelican saying "remove the alarm module and jumper '61' to 'A'. " Has anyone tried this with good results. Thanks guys.

I have bypassed the alarm in a Carrera using a jumper. There is a relay that cuts the current in the yellow ignition wire in the trunk. I removed the relay and jumperd the connection. This allowed me to bypass the ignition shut off and start the car. Not sure if this will fix your problem.

Here's my unit & labelling. Only scene the A to 61 in prior posts, but will try one then both. I guess as long as I get a start I am ok. Does the alarm relay come out too? Also in trunk to the left more I believe.

Relay.
Quote:
There is no relay labeled alarm on the fuse panel. Where is the relay in question located? Also, your alarm module P/N differs from our '86. And, here's another thought. There are several links on this site for alarm and CC repair. Try to contact these people, as they may be your best help. Best, Gerry

First unplug the alarm module
Then these 2 things: 1) You need to jumper 87a to 15, if you do not the DME relay will not activate. 2) Jumper 61 to 61, if you do not you will have issues with charging light. But on point 2 I don't see 2 pins labeled 61 on your pic of your unit? But the wire colors for 61 and 61 should be blue/red and the other wire blue.

^^^^^ As per my factory manual. That's why I think he should find some repair level suggestions. Gerry

Half way there I guess. Few of the wire colours as per the Bentley 1988-1989 Anti-thelf diagram agree with my car. I can start with a jumper on 87a and 15 so that must be power to DME. With nothing else jumped I get the battery check light illuminated when I turn the ignition key then it goes out as expected on start up. If I jump A and 61 I get a clicking sound which I'm guessing may be the relay. Anyone with post May 1989 Carrera done this? . My wire colours are:
61 red/blue A green/brown Mk double green E blue/brown 31 3wires brown, green to black, and green to black 87a black T-brown/whitr 15 red/white ![]() |

I think Early S Man also posted a pretty good diagram. I hate to post links because we just help the car thieves that way.

If you have 14.2v at the battery with the car running then the charging system is working. Maybe nothing else is needed, other than that first jumper.
