Charging battery through cig lighter?

I've got a small battery on my racecar and often put it on a trickle charger between events. The battery is in the smugglers box so it's a pain to reach. I was looking getting some permanently mounted extender cables for my Ctek charger and noticed they sell an adapter to charge the car through the cigarette lighter. This would be easier to reach and I could use it on any car with a lighter so I'm probably going to buy it. Sounds like a great idea if it works. Has anyone here used one?

Does your car ignition need to be in the ACC position for the cigarette lighter to be hot?

My '75 does, this may be a consideration

I ran a dedicated always hot fused wire to my lighter so I could use it for charging the battery and for devices with ignition off.

didn't think about that, if I have to do that it would be easier to just buy the normal extension cable

Hey, if this helps at all, I have a 964 and I use my charger through the cigarette lighter all the time and it works well. I have the Porsche brand one.

The Battery Tender Jr comes with leads you can permanently attach to the battery. Might could just pop those out of the smugglers box and run them to someplace convenient.
