Question Plug alternative for 2.2S w/mfi

Hey, all

I am about to go through the Check / Measure / Adjust procedures on my 2.2S MFI, and wanted to try an alternate plug.

I have been happy with the stock Bosch W3dpo so far, but now have an MSD unit which recommends a much wider plug gap. To date, I have not been able to figure out how to adjust the gap on the side-firing Bosch platinums, and am looking for a good, traditional style electrode plug that I can adjust the gap on.

Research shows that the NGK plugs seem to be favorite alternatives, but what would be the proper one for an early S?

Thanks,

Cool

I used champions (gasp! gasp!) in my 2.2E. They worked very well. (Just another Wal-Mart type of decision)

Good luck,

I used NGKBPR7ES in my 2.4E with MFI. When I was getting a lot of fouling I went with the hotter BPR6ES. That plug will support a gap up to .060. However I ran mine at .032.

I have a 9.7:1 compression ratio in my 2.7L and run BP7ES gapped at .045 (MSD, their high vibration coil, & 8.5mm Magnecore wires). The Webers are set to run rich.

I would think 7s or maybe 8s with the cleaner running MFI. At a buck & a bit a plug, a guy can afford to experiment.

Kevin,

I asked a similar question in which I listed plug recommendation from other threads. Go here to read the entire message.

Muchas Gracias mi amigos!

Strange that the hot/cold numbers go in different directions between Bosch and NGK. Talk about confusing to know-nothings like me.

According to the chart provided by Neil K's link, the NGK BPR9ES is the closest match to my current W3DPO's. But based on the type of driving I do, (Stop & Go commute, and highway) I should be using a hotter plug such as the BPR8ES or 7ES as recommended by Mr. Stein, with the potential for the 6ES if I get fouling.

Looks like I will ride the fence and start with the 7's and go from there.

Time to Play!

Thanks!

Kevin, for what it's worth, I commute in my 72T in LA everyday. Started with Bosch (had always used them in Porsche and VW's) and at recommendation of Steve W and others on this board went with the BPR6ES. Car is much happier. My MFI system needs to be cleaned out and rebuilt, so it runs rich, as a point of reference - but I'm sold on NGK. In LA, I'd go hotter (no pun intended) rather than colder....
