1983 SC Wont Start

Hey All,
This is my first post on the forum. I have been reading quite a bit on here, chasing through threads regarding starting issues and smoking upon start up... But figured I would ask about it as well.
Here's the scoop:
I just inherited my grandfathers 1983 SC, 50,000 miles on the odometer but it's been sitting virtually un-moved since 1999. I live in a different state as the car and now it needs to get trailer-ed up to my garage, but it needs to run first to get on the trailer!
So, we've replaced the fuel pump, flushed the tank, replaced the oil and battery, new S hose to the oil tank. We also fitted new rotors, calipers, pads, and tires... All of this led up to us trying the ignition... And wham, started up like a champ - no hesitation almost instant ignition. Car smoked ALOT and we were worried something was wrong - so we turned it off and hit the forum. (I have video of the start up and smoking any way of posting here or do i have to link to a youtube type display?)

After reading about the smoking it seemed like the best thing to do was get the motor hot to burn off any residual oils - so we did, and it slowed way down in smoke production. Took it for a spin around the block and on its way back into the garage - it died, and hasn't come back.
I've checkd the CIS for functionality, i.e. pressed up on the air valve inside the cleaner box, (have not done a pressure test though), everything seems to be working fine - i hear lots of noises and fuel being pumped, smell it too. I undid the fuel accumulator fitting at the bottom and watched a bit of fuel come out (shot glass full?). So it seems fuel is there, right?

All this leads us to believe that it's a spark issue.
I guess my question is, what would go bad given those circumstances - smooth starting, idled and ran for about 30 min. and then just died.

I do have to mention, on the 'around the block' drive, we hit a few hills and the motor definitely felt like it was struggling. Signs of bad fuel delivery or spark?

At any rate, I will continue to scour the forum for info but figured I would get my first post started. I am sure I will have many more. Any input is greatly appreciated!
