Engine mount failure-opinions sought

Discovered last night that the rear engine carrier bar has broken.
I've got the option now of relacing it and the motor mount bushings at the same time or replacing only the bar.
What say you all?

By the way, just how common is this sort of failure?

I've never seen one break. Where is the break at? The metal is thick enough that you could probably get it welded as good as new.

Where did the spanner break? I assume it broke at the very outer end where the bolt attaches thru the body? That's where mine broke. It broke upon removing the bolt. The bolt was seized in the mount and ended up twisting and tearing away from the vertical, threaded portion of the bar, right at the weld. I just bent it back in place and a buddy rewelded it. Still, I bought a replacement spanner to be sure. I now use the rewelded part when lifting the motor onto an engine stand with a hoist.

Most likely your mounts are worn if they're original? They're not super expensive ($40 ea.) and they'll tighten up the feel of the drivetrain. Get the cabrio./Club Sport mount (Pelican # C-375-043-07). It's sturdier than the coupe/Targa mount.

Kevin's got it right. The break is right at the end near where the bolt goes through.
I've ordered a carrier and mounts from my local dealer - finally got to use the PCA discount.

I have seen one break on a early 911 MFI car. (Think it is a 73). Car is used heavily for auto crossing and maybe some track events. When the owner noticed it broken was during an autocross but he believes it actually broke the day before in a Gimmick Rally.

The cross bar broke right at the point where the barrel (When the bolt screws in) and cross bar is connected. He re-welded it and a few weeks later the other side broke. I believe he purchased a new bar after that.
