930 Distributor Rotors - What's the difference?

Does anyone know the difference between the early (76-79) 930 distributor rotors and the late (86-89) ones? They all seem to use the same cap. But the early rotor is $24 instead of $6!

There's no listing of a part for the 80-85 cars on PP...

Is it the rev limiter ? My 79 930 Rotor has a centrifical rev limiter. Were the later ones electronic ?

David, that was my thought too, but I'm at work and can't remember if my existing rotor has a limiter or not.

I'm using a Crane ignition box for electronic limiting, so I'd like to get a non-limited rotor anyway. Hmmm.

Anyone know for sure if there are differences in how the two types fit the distributor shaft?

The cheap on is not limited. The more expensive one has the centrifugal limiter.

I use the non rev-limiter.
The rev-limiter cost more.
I always ask for Turbo rotors
but I think it's the same as the
Carrera rotor.

Sounds like both rotor types will fit my distributor. I'll pick up the non-limited one.

One nice surprise is that the caps are dirt cheap compared to the Carrera caps. That's got to be a first for a 930 part.

Colin, I believe you can also use a non-limiting (later) SC rotor and cap. At least I have been for years. I use the MSD box to limit the revs

Can you use the turbo rotor with centrifigul rev limiter on a 78SC?.
I would like a rev limiter for driver's ed events. The car has a motronic 3.2 conversion

rds, that's an interesting looking engine. I guess the IC is set up to clear the stock decklid? Looks like a tight fit with the Carrera intake. I just installed a 930 intercooler on my 3.0 under a ducktail, but I'm still running the lower-profile 930 CIS manifolds.

Cowtown,

There is plenty of room even with Carrera manifolds,intercooler and stock deck lid. The trick is to mount the intercooler at the same sloping angle as the deck lid. I believe there is about 1/2 inch left.
Can anyone tell me if you can use the 930 rotor on a 78SC distributor?.

From the answers above, my 930 engine can use either of the turbo rotors. In addition, the 78-83 SC rotor in the link above has the same part number as the 86-89 930. Unless there's a flaw in my logic, you can use either of the turbo rotors, and the H-602-901-01 part is the one with the rev limiter.

Motoronic has built-in rev limiter that cuts fuel. No need for limiting dizzy.
