SCRS is my vote. The one in Post #12 is sick.

Girth

Ferrino's on to it!
Thanks for the input guys, over the last five or six years of 911 ownership the wealth of knowledge in the pelican community has helped me to tackle pretty much every thing from rebuilding a 915 trans, doing a 3.6 transplant, fitting oil coolers (3 required here), to setting up strings for wheel alignment.
I purchased this car nearly three years ago as a 3.2 road legal track car which had already been modified, after selling my unmolested 84 carrera as I wanted a car I could do evil things to, and couldn't bring myself to cut into my carrera, strange I know.
Car has been in its present format for a couple of years and I am getting itchy feet, I do like running 15" wheels, tyres are a bit of a problem tho, currently maxed out with 275/35 hosier r6 on the rear, if I go iroc i'm thinking 15" braid fuch replics with pirelli p7 corsa classic rubber. The front fenders are already glass so flares not a biggie on that, but if I go Iroc I rely want to have the right shape flare on the rear, not the 930 as it has a different profile, and to top it off i want steel rear flares not glass, here I go again- rambling, this porsche thing is a disease!
I do like the look on water cooled guys faces as I go past.

There was a beautiful IROC-esque car on Petrolicious earlier this week:

lol.... You're a legend

It sounds like you really need to build an RSR. Just go for it.

Great clip Tony. What muffler and extractors are you running?

After reading the posts above I'm thinking Girth now.

The first time I saw a black 930 IRL was more than 30 years ago and I've never forgotten the "presence" that car had.
It was just parked there in the sun... The owner was a kid. Maybe late teens or early 20s. This was in the Northern suburbs of Sydney.

Tony911 06-04-2015 11:07 PM

Cheers Peter, BB long run headers and matching 2in & out muffler, not perfect, the droning at 3k is pretty bad.
My aim is to start this project next winter with the car being out of action for as short an amount of time as practically possible, so the next 12 months are about finding and purchasing the bits & bobs, that means making a firm decision on the end result soon.
The tub is much better suited to backdating, so common cense may win the day.
I remember looking at prices across the Tasman a couple of years ago and was shocked at what you guys were having to pay back then for a nice 911, maybe the ROW had to catch up.

Girth is good, or so I've heard...

You are correct about the flares on the IROC/3.0 RS being different from the later Turbo flares. The IROC/3.0 RS flares are the same as used on the 73 RSR, and have much different opening shape and opening size. That Fittipaldi IROC pic shows how much larger the openings are, but when walking around one of these cars, the difference is much more appreciated.

I am building a 3.0 RS tribute and found a set of 4 original correct flares to have installed as seen in the pics. The SCRS makes more sense if you want to keep the turbo flares because they are correct for these cars.

Gib,

Are you documenting your build online anywhere? Loved your green ST and yellow Toad Hall builds, killer cars!

Here are more pics showing the difference in flare shapes between the Turbo/SCRS flares and the 3.0 RS/IROC flares.

The SCRS is a very special 911, with very similar specifications to the 3.0 RS, but their body flares, front bumpers, and tail are different.

It's gotta be blue!

Hi Tony. My dream would be to build an IROC replica, and paint it in the blue that Denny Hulme ran. Just to keep it a little more kiwi....http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1436235846.jpg
Please do that!

Tony911 07-07-2015 01:16 AM

Hi Matt, hadn't made the connection with the Hulme car, probably because I've had a fixation on the sahara beige Fittipaldi car. Beautiful car, hope you decide to follow your dream, would make for some great rennsport events with two iroc tributes running.
I will be running the car this summer as it is (a rat), with the wide body conversion hopefully happening next winter, cheers.
