Rsr or rsr
Ok guys, decision time, to go forward or go back? give your vote.
Car is a 78sc which had a warm 3.2, now running a 3.6 with 350 fwhp. The decision is weather to backdate to 74iroc or forward to 964 rsr, love them both. Still have the torsion bar suspension (34mm rear, 26mm front), adjustable sway bars, 944s2 front calipers, carrera rears, 915 trans, car weighs in at 2300lbs. Love the 964rsr , but thinking I will need to go coil over. It seems there has been a lot of backdates, anyone out there taken there sc forward? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

For resale... I say back date it. Building the iconic 73RS would see the most return.
Although building a 74 IROC would also add value. I love the 964 cars but your car is "closer" to an IROC and in some ways would be easier to do. But what do you really want to own?

Go '74 IROC or all-in and go longhood. Backdating is the only believable way to go.

Go back
If you must, backdating is the only way to add value to your car. The IROC cars are also "G" type so it would not only make it period-correct but it will be a lot less expensive to achieve correctly. Most forward-dated cars where done in the nineties when long hoods were cheap and "G" models were a dime a dozen and most of these devaluated cars have been turned back to original or backdates by now.
If you like IROC cars, then build your dream IROC monster, you'll be happy and the car will not lose value. Cheers M

I still say 73RS... Sure it's almost a cliche but extending the hood and back dating the front guards is easier than welding on flares. The rear mods are simple. Then there's the issue of the wheels. Correct IROC style wheels can be way over the top $$$. And it has to be said. There's a very simple reason the pre impact bumper cars have gone up in value they way they have. Put simply it's the purest of the 911 line. Just the way Butzi intended.

Banned but not out, yet..

Go back Jack. Going forward is making the same mistake as all the people with long hoods that forward dated to impact bumpers. Now the cars are worth far less - whereas an IROC tribute would be considered pretty desirable.

bingo!
This, along with the 3.0 RS I mentioned, gets my vote. That way you get to keep the big bumpers. I'm over the whole long hood backdate thing and glad I didn't do it with my car. Thanks cuz. Sounds fun!

Keeping it stock will make the most financial sense, but if you must IROC is bad ass!
A 73 rs backdate will need welding to... |

My $0.02 is to leave it as-is. It's already a super nice car.
After saying that - you could always add a SCRS rear bumper to match your front bumper, delete the side rocker covers, and maybe delete the flag mirrors and go with a single drivers side 935 mirror or something. |

My vote is leave it as is. Swap out flag mirrors, remove rockers, add an IROC wing, call it good. With a 3.6 that thing must fly.

Another vote for SC-RS. Do it as what it is.

What's clear from both choices is that the guy wants girth. And in my experience, that is a point of no return. Were you not to bestow her with some hips, you would forever wonder...
