Shifting support fork

So I'm having a few problems shifting in the 1st - 2nd gears. I've changed, the bushings (shifter, tunnel, coupling) and oil (swepco) but still no improvements... So I opened up the cover underneath the tranny, where the support fork is located. It's not loose or broken, although there seems to be a bit of wear on one side (see picture) but I doubt this is what's causing me trouble. Any ideas? Time to change the synchros?:(http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1433382605.jpg

Looks fine to me.

Probably worn synchros if you have trouble going into 2nd from 1st.

As long as the swepco is out, put some kendall 80/90 in there so it will shift as well as possible.

These forks do bend and open up slightly which is easy to measure.

Any wear or bending will be seen as increased stick movement and reduction in the 'definition' of the gate, it doesn't really affect the shift as such.

I would agree with chucking the Swepco out - we use a Motul Technosynthese with good results as I can't find Kendall in the UK.

Of course it is Swepco's fault.....

Possibly  - I have never much liked the shift quality of a 915 with Swepco.

At what rpm do you make your 1-2 shift?

Looks like classic gear contact due to output shaft walking. This happens when there is significant wear on the 4 point bearing and/or the bearing retainer.

It's interesting that your shift fork plate looks a lot like mine.

Here's mine... Note the sealant and I had broken studs when I took it out.
Please double check yours.

Upshift usually is around 4K RPM, downshift is about 1K I guess...

So far Swepco 0 - Kendall 4 !!

As for my studs, I haven't taken them apart since the fork seems well secured to the cover.

Where would I find the correct dimensions?

Measure inside the fork at the bottom and see if the top is the same.

Well, that makes me look like a damn idiot, doesn't it?

So it should be fairly consistent from top to bottom?
