How much oil did you put in, and did you drain the oil from both the oil tank and the sump prior to refilling?

I just change the oil in my 85 911 Carrera. Both the oil level gauge and the pressure gauge are stuck ion the high mark when the car is running - any ideas on what the problem could be?

Could it be overfilled with oil? If you turn the ignition on but don't start the car, do the gauges still read high?

Or you knocked the ground wire off the pressure sensor?

Algernon got it. The oil gauges are kinda backwards this way: you take off the wire and it shoots up, not down.

As mention in the 2 previous posts. Look like you got on an open between the sensors and the gauge.
Check to see if the wires for both the level (2) and pressure (1) are actually attached to the them. If they are, with the power on (engine not running) unplug the wire on top of the pressure sensor (it should remain at the top) and grounded to the chassis and report back what happened to the gauge.

I'll bet your dipstick is holding the level gauge sender in the top position, providing the "full" indication on your gauge. This happens when you fill the tank after an oil change, putting in 11+ quarts to start, then reinserting the dipstick before running the engine.
To fix, start the engine. After a couple of minutes, remove the dipstick -- you may hear or feel the sender release and fall to a lower position. Reinsert the dipstick and check the gauge to see if that fixed it. This does not address the high pressure symptom ... |
