Doug, Count me in. I'm trying to get a little oil leak taken care of this week. It presented itself after two DE days at Summit Point last weekend. Don't want to leave a trail through the Va. countryside.

Bill:

A little leak ?!?! That kind of leak would stop all of us (except Rob-Porshin, of course) :D

I've seen Richard's rear tires . . . and I'm not bringing up the rear on that one. The good news is we will have at least 30 spares (albeit spacesavers) to get Richard home.

See you all on Sunday.

If it rains, let's find out who can go the fastest sideways

Look what I miss when I don't log on for a few hours - if we are having this much fun now just wait until we hit the road!

FYI: I will be sending another e-mail to everyone tonight with some additional route information. A few people e-mailed me asking for very general route directions (ie, which town are we heading towards etc...) in addition to the road specifics already provided. Don't worry, the maps I will be distributing Sunday will have the route highlighted in colors to make it easier to understand where we are going.

84hours from now we will be on the road :)

hmmm. early morning rain in late November in WVA borderland. Doug, you think it might be icy? maybe its just the jewish mother in me worrying...

Doug E 11-13-2002 05:39 PM

Dave - only one way to find out, right? Seriously though, there are plenty of bail out points along the route if we get into any trouble.

marcesq 11-14-2002 02:03 PM

Oh come on . . . just take the thing off and get on with it.

Richard has been driving his car without a sway bar for months

Rick Lee 11-14-2002 02:05 PM

Yeah, what are you worried about? My sway bar mounts broke in May. I waited around for the parts to come for a few months and gave up. I'm having Lewis Hauser fix it all when I give him my car next month for some body work. I don't track my car, but I drive her plenty hard without my rear sway bar and it's fine. You'll make it through Sunday.

arrivederci 11-14-2002 02:25 PM

Hehe, we won't be driving fast enough to put a sway bar to use... :)

What tires are you all running? Hopefully they're good in the rain!

APKhaos 11-14-2002 02:30 PM

Broke it!

Looks like I might be totally F***ed for Sunday run.

The car developed a clunk in the last session at Summit on Sunday, and this afternoon was the first chance I had to look at it. My snazzy Smart Racing swaybar has torn itself loose from one of the mounts.

I really reinforced the mounts - fabricated and welded a plate to close up the 'open' side of the mount, then welded an additional triangulating piece from the mount up to the torsion bar tube. Rock solid, right? No quite. What happened is the captive nuts have torn right through the crappy light gage steel that the mounts are made from. I guess the only thing I can do is fabricate a decent steel 'base' to carry the captive nuts, and weld that to the rest of the reinforced mount. Won't be much stock mount left, believe me.

Trouble is, I dont have access to the shop where I did all this work, and dont have welding gear [or die grinder/fabrication stuff] at home. First local shop that can even look at this is next Wednesday. Sucks.

Oops - had to delete and repost to add the pic!

You don't know Tony very well do you :D

Richard mounted his slicks on the rear just for this run.

Me . . . I'm just hoping my Kuhmo's stay on the road.

Green 912 11-14-2002 03:19 PM

Even with well-used track slicks I might get the noisy Green 912S out of the white box just harass the 6cyls. ;) Actually I am trying to figure out a way to get out of a "Frigging Hike In The Woods" I promised to go on. Why did I get married? I have no excuse.. This is the 2nd one...

Tony, you have 2 options

1. Unhook the sway bar and given the weather report it sounds like the smart thing to do

2. Bring the car over and we will weld it up Fri night. You got to help haul the Mig up the steps....

marcesq 11-14-2002 03:24 PM

Dam Kurt . . . Doug just had a son and he's running this thing . . . Oh yea its a hike though I get it. :D

Hope your better half does't peruse this board or you might need a good lawyer

Doug E 11-14-2002 06:52 PM

Tony - hopefully you can get it fixed and we'll see you Sunday.

Kurt - maybe you can persuade her to go on a "drive through the woods" instead?

Marc - you should consider discounts for board members :D

I don't want to get too excited given that it is only Thursday but it appears that we might catch a break with the weather after all!

T minus 60 hours ...

Gordo2 11-14-2002 09:48 PM

I'm up!

Looks like I'm in!

First drive in over a month tonight (quick midnight run). Brakes are solid after the rear job, engine is smooth with the new wire set. Things look good for Sunday. Rainy weather looks like it will pass by then:

http://www.weather.com/weather/detail/22554?dayNum=3

Only thing stopping me now would be waking to a hard rain. I plan to run topless. I've run my bike in colder weather, no sense in buttoning up for 50 degree heat.

Wheel refinishing project went to crap. Will post details under another topic. I apparently blow at painting ... Don't look to close at the wheels or scratch them with your finger nail, the paint will come off.

Look forward to meeting all.

Gordo

Doug E 11-15-2002 03:25 AM

Now that's the spirit Gordo! Congrats on finishing the project and don't worry about the painting issues, no points for concours are awarded at these events.

Not sure, but you might be the only topless person there on Sunday :D

No car washing allowed after today!

I hooked up heat (partially) for this. Looks like I'll need it. :)

Today . . . . that means until midnight right

arrivederci 11-15-2002 06:05 AM

How does "before the rain hits" sit with you? Mine is sorta clean now, but will likely be driven and parked in the rain tonight.

Doug E 11-15-2002 05:26 PM

Just looked at the weather forecast and it doesn't seem like we are going to catch a break on Sunday. Right now the forecast is calling for rain (up to 1/2 inch with 100% precipitation).

Don't shoot me for this idea but does anybody want to consider postponing the run until the following Sunday, 11/24? In looking at the extended 10 day forecast they are calling for a mixture of sun and clouds that day with only 10% precipitation.

Let's hear what the gang thinks ...
