What lights should be on?

On a USA car - engine off - lights off - left or right turn turn signal on E.G. Turn signal lever down or up.
I expected left marker or right marker lights on respectively - my car has both sides on.
TIA

Should be left or right, not both. Any issue when ignition in on, or car is running? What about emergency flashers?

Thanks. All other light function work as expected. I guess I have some troubleshooting ahead of me.

Not sure if your M/Y has a diode under the dash.

If so check it.

If this is the issue, just buy diode @ your local electronic shop
and solder it to the small pc board.

Good luck,

Gerry

Hi Gary,
Thanks for this info! Where, under the dash, should this diode be located?

Between the steering wheel, and the light switch. (If you have one).

OK, I resolved the light issue - it turned out that an old aftermarket alarm harness that I finally removed caused the issue. Remove harness - left and right lights work independently again. This removal seems to have caused a new problem - plus, there is no diode to be found - it looks like there may have been one but it was removed and the two wires hooked together (maybe).

New problem:

Before the removal of this harness, I did not have a buzzer associated with keys in the ignition, car off and door open... I have have a buzzer - but there is a problem.

1) OK - Car off, buzzer on, remove key - buzzer off.
2) Not so OK - Key in, door closed, start car buzzer on... I have to open the door and close the door (car still running) to get the buzzer to go off. Arghhhhh!
3) Not so OK (just found this) - Door closed, turn key to ignition (not acc), buzzer on... turn key off without starting motor, buzzer off.

Geeze, I hate previous owners and their mechanics.

Hmmmm - buzzer may actually be working as designed. Did some more research and it would seem that the key buzzer is also a seatbelt buzzer (?) - if so, all seems to be working as designed.

Now I just need to sort out the missing diode.

I have no buzzer... nor is my parking light working. Maybe I should just leave it be :-)
