Typically this is caused from a lean fuel mixture. First thing I would check is the oil cap, is it tight and is the seal in good shape? Other than that there is no connection to an oil change and popping. Hopefully it is just the oil cap seal! If you check the oil cap and it is tight and the seal is in tact you will need to check for sources of a lean condition. What are the driving conditions that make the valve pop? Cold start? Under load? When warm?

If you have changed no other item on the car but the oil, then next step is to make sure you have changed it correctly. Have you checked the level when warm, level surface? If OK (midstick level best), open the airbox remove filter and look for excess oil residue. Looking deeper and back, note the alum. arm that holds the sensor plate - any oil on that? If so, very carefully lift the sensor plate and feel for oil residue in the "bowl" by sliding a finger around for a representative amount.

In an extreme case a lean condition would be replicated by oil weight on a sensor plate. It's a guess anyways - always look to the last touch in as the suspect action for an issue. Good luck!

Sounds like you overfilled the oil tank.

Typically add 9 quarts then warm up the engine to operating temp and check with the car at idle. Like Jdub says make sure the car is level and that the oil is at the mid point on the dipstick. If low then add until you hit the mark with engine running.

it starts popping immediately after the engine is started, should i try to adjust the fuel air mixture. the vehile is a 76 911 s with a 2.7 liter engine. originally it had a Rothsport oil intake valve on it, i didn't think oil was going past it so i removed it and replaced the s hose. now the pop off valve is popping, i think some oil came in through the breather hose into the airbox. i thoruoghly cleaned the airbox, but the pop off valve is still popping. adjusting the fuel air mixture is my last ditch hope.
