Michelin TB15 tire size recommendation on 7/8-15

Hello,

I am thinking about running Michelin TB15 on my 911 RS Replica next season.

The car has RS flares in the back and is running on Fuchs 7x15 (front) and 8x15 (rear). There are a lot of STs with TB15s but I haven't seen any RS with these.

What would you guys recommend in terms of sizes? Or does anybody here runs the TB15 on a RS-flared car? The choices are:

18/60-15 front AND rear

or

18/60-15 front and 23/62-15 rear

Many thanks,
Christian

I would run the 15/60 (170) front and the 18/60 (215) rears for a sure fit. It's pretty iffy if the 23/62 (270's) would fit on the back without rubbing issues. I would want a 9x15 w/5.5-6" of backspacing so I could locate the tire in the wheel well. You would also be adding neg camber to get it to fit. I also think the 270's would look strange on a 8" rim, it's a tall tire that would have a lot of bulge. The 18/60 (215's) are just over 9" wide and the 23/60 (270's) are just under 11" wide. That's too wide for 8" rim.

I've had the 18/60 (215's) on 7's, 8's and 9's, to me they look better on the 8's&9's. I've also had the 270's on 9's, which look o.k. but eventually will fit them on 11's.

I ran 9x17's w/275 Hoosiers with 1.5 neg camber on our '73 Targa with factory RS flares, a tight fit.

Thanks Harold.

I would also prefer the 15/60-15 on the 7" in front and 18/60-15 on the 8" in the back but it seems that the 15/60-15 are no longer in production. Some dealers still list them but according to the main distributor here in Germany this size isn't available any more...

May be worth calling around and seeing if anyone has a pair in stock. In the US try Coker Tire, or Longstone Tires in the U.K. The Michelins have taken a serious price hike (25%) on the sizes I know, in the past few months. Another tire to consider would be Toyo T1R if still available over there.

I am into contact with longstonetyres (UK) and they also mentioned the 15/60-15 to be nla.

I run a set of Toyo T1-R on my car last year and did not like them that much to be honest. They feel like their sidewall is very soft and turn-in is unprecise.

Cheers,
Christian

I'm using 18/60 at the front on 8x15 and 23/62 on 10x15 at the rear;

A friend of mine uses 23/62 on 9x15, I don't think they would fit properly on 8x15...

I saw on the catalog that they produce 15/60 but I have no experience with that tyres

finally I think that would be better to use larger tyres at the rear, so I would not use 18/60 all around

The available 15/60-15 are obviously from 2004 as this was the last time Michelin has produced them...

In the meantime I spoke to several racing tyre dealers and racers who actually run the TB5 and/ or TB15 on 'moderat' flared STs or RSs. They all suggested to run 18/60-15 on the front AND on the rear which should give the best handling.

Does anybody here run this combo?

Thanks,
Christian

I don't think it will look right. The fronts will have more bulge and be slightly higher (1/2" +) on the 7's than on the 8's. The front of the car will be either the same height, or possibly higher than the rear. You could also have rubbing issues if you lower the car to compensate. I would try and borrow a pair of fronts for a test fit, or have the dealer mount a pair for you to try. It would be an expensive mistake, having made it.
I emailed Coker Tire and asked for the production date, no response. If they are from 2004, that's a pretty slimy move selling 7 yr. old tires.

Hi Harold & Al,

A lot of sources list the 15/60-15 but until now no one in the US or EU has it in stock with the exception of Coker, where these originate from 2004 obviously. I had a long chat with Guenter Schlag on this special size and he mentioned that this size will be discontinued due to FIA homologation issues with the overall diameter of the 15/60-15 being effectively below 600mm which is to small. He is one of the major resellers for the TB5/15 in the EU (sold around 2500 sets of these in 2011 alone...) and might know what he is talking about.

It seems that I have to try it with 18/60-15 on a 7" Fuchs in front and with 23/62-15 on a 9" Fuchs in the back on my RS-flared car. Does anybody here used this combo on a RS- or SC-flared car before?

Best,
Christian

Raising this issue from the dead: would love to hear from anyone with 23/62s on SC-flared bodies,
Thanks in advance,
Ben.

Old thread, but very recent issue.

I have an '88 narrow body with 7x15 wheels in the front and 8x15 in the back.

What is the right Michelins TB15 tire size that I can have without any rubbing?

Thanks.
R.
