Hi! I have a 911 3.0 1977, I changed oil but I have problems adjusting oil level. I used 12 qtrs, the gauge level indicador mark empty and using the dipstick marks the minimum. I follow the instructions, I mean checking the level with the engine running at idle and at operating temprerature. If I add more oil causes smog because the oil excess... Colud you help me?

Rene, so long as the car it at full operating temperature, the dipstick is not lying.

If it's at temp, idling and being checked on a level surface, showing minimum, add another half quart.

The overall quantity is dependent on other factors like what type oil coolers you may or may not have. When I added a large front cooler to my SC, the car took 14qts to get the line on dipstick to mid point between min-max. That was after about half hour of driving around, checking, adding, checking, adding...

10 qts with a filter usually gets the level 1/2 way between the marks on the stick. Don't see how you could be low after adding 12 qts unless the engine was new, oil lines empty and not run yet.

I think a peppy drive is warranted. No idea where Rene is. He may be in Australia? If the car is just idling in cold weather (from cold start), it will not open the thermo.

To remove all doubt, put your hand on the front fender oil cooler/oil lines up there. They will be warm when the thermostat is open.

Does it have an aftermarket or Carrera oil cooler on it?
