AC Hose Routing Question
Where do AC hoses to/from evaporator exit the smuggler box?
I am installing new barrier hoses and the old ones have long been gone. Also where can I buy barrier hose and fittings in the San Fernando Valley or even the Greater Los Angeles Area? TIA

There is a hole on the driver side of the smuggler's box. One hose goes down the passenger side to the compressor and the other goes to the receiver drier on the driver's side. You have to take the belly pan off to feed the hoses through. There is at least one spot for a hose clamp near the cross-member.
I'm assuming left hand drive of course...

I've been working on installing the new a/c system for a couple of hours a night for the last couple of days. Let me know if you need any pics along the way.
I have the new front condenser and the front/rear rear wheel well condensers installed now along with all of the electrical. Next step is to install all the new barrier hoses and receiver drier.

I will be going a slightly different route and install a smart VOV instead of a VTX, use an accumulator/drier on the low side of the compressor instead of a receiver/drier on the intake of the evap.
I will try and take pictures to share. I'd like to see your pics as well...

![]() The design is pretty simple and used in all modern car AC systems. Can you elaborate on your warning? Thx!

Designing, or building a system from "scratch" use of a TXV would be the wiser move.. Given the known poor condensing capability of our cars allowing liquid refrigerant reaching the accumulator downstream of the evaporator does not seem a wise move. Seems sorta like the pro-cooler snake oil. VOV Part 1: Interview with VOV inventor, Dick Kozinski |

WARNING you must use an accumulator/receiver tank if you use ORIFICE TUBE
Btw WARNING you must use an accumulator/receiver tank if you use any kind of orifice VALVE !!!
Or you will damage your a/c compressor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Last edited by KelogGes; 07-20-2015 at 05:02 PM.. |

I had a hard time reinstalling the hex headed screw that secures the driver side sway bar. FYI. Had to use a jack to "persuade" it back into place. Otherwise it was pretty easy to remove the belly pan. Good luck!
