Bilstein Front Strut inserts
Hi Guys,
Feeling stupid here....... I have the strut inserts and note that in the forums you need to remove the roll pin. I am looking at the strut insert and I cannot work out how a roll pin would hold in the new insert. My lower strut insert is cylindrical with two indents on the bottom surface. ![]() ![]() Also I read in the tech articles that to replace the front strut insert all I need to do is take the top bolt off and then compress strut and then change it out. Other articles suggest taking other bits and pieces off. Can someone point me in the right direction. Geoff |

Post a picture of the struts on the car. Those look just like the bilstein inserts I put on my car with boge OEM struts. There is no roll pin. You pull top nut off and remove the dust cap and pull off the top flange nut holding the strut insert in. If your car has bilstein Oem struts you have the wrong inserts.
I posted a few days ago on the full procedure. |

You may have the wrong part. Bilstein for Bilstein are inverted - that is, the shock body is at the top, and the shaft goes down into the strut housing. The insert looks like this:
When installed, it looks like a strut with a HUGE shaft. (that sounds dirty.) All of the other designs mount the body in the housing, and the shaft goes up into the camber plate. That's what appears to be pictured - Bilstein for Boge or Koni.

Okay, unless your PO updated to an 85.5+ year spindles, you have the proper inserts with the inner gland nut ( that silver looking thing under the dust shield )
Take a look at your spindel/housing for a part number. ![]() Outer Gland Nut Housing ![]() Inner Gland Nut Type ![]() Outer Gland Nut Updated Type
