Extreme Wheel Offsets
Hello,
I am sorry if this is a repetive question but I checked the archives and was unable to get an exact answer. For the standard bodied 1985 911 Carrera what is the max offset allowable? I was advised by a shop that sells wheels that I could run with a 17x9.5 rear 8.5 front. It sounds extreme but atttractive. Thanks for the help. Btw... I have a set of beautiful condition Fuchs 16x6/7 that will be for sale when I get the new wheels. Calspeed |

Sweet Lord-e-Moma. If you can get those kinda wheels to fit under a narrow body without rubbing you need solid suspension and 27" ride hight.
I hope one of the more factual types on the board can shed futher wisdom on this opinion, but sorry: to me it sounds like your wheel salesman is behind budget this month.

Jack Olsen and Bill Verberg are running 10's in the rear but had to maching down the adjustment nuts on the spring plates to get then to fit and reloacte the oil lines in the right rear wheelwell.
I've never heard of anyone running anything bigger than 8's up front and that requires lots of negative camber and fender lip rolling. Just looked in BA 's book and he doesn't list anything wider up front than 8's' too. PB |

I bought my wheels from wheel enhancements and I also said give me the widest wheels front and rear without rolling the fenders and I got 7.5 in the front and 9's in the rear. It looks good.

I'd say stick with upto 7.5's if you just wanna bolt them on and go but 8.5's are possible with a bit of work.
I'm running 8.5's on the front of my SC. Rolled the lips and replaced the solid tube-type strut cover with a flexible neoprene type for that little bit more clearance on the inside. No rubbing problems at all. Regards, Jon.

Whatever wheels you end up w/ I urge you to stick w/ brands such as Kinesis, Fikse, BBS and Fuchs I am sure that there are other quality wheel makers but those are the big 4 for Porsche. Others may imitate but the quality is not there. Here is a pic of what can happen w/ the wrong wheels.
![]() I am using 8 & 9.5 x17 w/ 235/45 & 275/40 unless you want to do a lot of work stick w/ 7.5 & 9 x17 w/ 225/50 & 255/40 which will fit w/o a great deal of effort. Do a search on my name, I have posted the offsets dozens of times.

Just a suggestion... keep your Fuchs. I put new wheels on my car (I like them) but wish I had not sold my Fuchs. They can be used for track days w/ sticky rubber, snow tires, whatever. You may just decide to put them back on at some point and it would be nice to have it be an option.
FWIW I really like your current wheels-

Thanks Moses. Thanks for the compliment. I just won and award in my first PCA show. Even though I was penalized for dirt under the rear deck lid and behind the aircleaner it was all good. I got a third. I guess it helps to have a low mileage car that was pampered all its life by the original onwer. Yeah baby! I got lucky with that car.
Calspeed ps: I also have a brand new full tonneau cover. The car simply rocks! ![]() |

Alamo is loaded with "underused" 991s. There is a silver '64 whose original owner has used it as a Sunday driver every Sunday since '64.
There is also a little old lady (70+ yrs) that putts all over town in a black on black 993 Turbo.
