87 911 harness fire, the Phoenix!! rising from the ashes

I had an 87 911 coupe follow me home Monday and want to get started towards bring her back to live another chapter of life. Here's info and pics of what I have with more to follow as i get into the rebuild a lil more.

Story is car suffered a harness fire that was contained to dash, guages, interior melt down, and trunk area. Burned harness, dash, guages, fuel tank, windshield, seats and all interior, and other trunk stuff was removed, area was blasted cleaned primed and repainted. I see no evidence of warping or compromised metal anywhere so I feel very lucky.

Car still has G-50 and 3.2 but with no guages have only title mileage of 53,529 and no Guages. If any Ohio previous owner recognizes the car pls get ahold of me.

Here's my plan: Since I'm starting out with a previously salvaged car, I'm not concerned with originality so I will install the oil tank and oil filler flap assly for a 72 that I have, pair of early 72 steel fenders and long hood from my stash, either RS front glass bumper or steel S front bumper (will get to that decision later), steel early rear bumper, remove the 3.2 engine and stuff my waiting 3.3 87 930 engine in next to that G-50 gearbox. Shifter and pedal assly were pulled, rebuilt, and reinstalled.

Here's first question, can I use the fuse panel and harness in my 78 tub that I have?
What if any changes do I need to make? Are there any threads on harness swap for Carreras? I searched but couldn't find any. Will SC guages ALL work with this engine Trans setup?

Your opinions here...while its apart should I add flairs for more RSR (since it's gonna boast the turbo engine should it be wider for tires or leave as is Carrera rear flairs. (I already have metal flairs on a shelf.

Secondly should I do a better color than factory guards red? This many changes I'm guessing a color change may not matter with value of original color?

Ducktail? And sunroof or no sunroof? Trim black or Brite work? Center fill or not.? That's the only thing I need to buy or fab if yes.

Here's s few pics to get started. More to come. Thanks for the opinions either way.

Are you intending to run the turbo engine with its original control systems (DME) or reverting it back to a simpler control?

I don't know if there is a best way per se, it really boils down to what you have available to you and where you want to go.
My knowledge of the later turbo motor and its controls/sensors is minimal at best.
Is it still cis? (Yeah, that limited)
If it is still CIS, then the '78 harness can run it. May need to make a few modifications, but it should do it.
I'll do a little more reading of my turbo manuals and in the meantime I'm sure others will add their knowledge.

Engine is cis and stock although I'm putting an sc cam, headers, newer turbo design, wastegate, and intercooler (all bolt ons). The dme from 3.2 is still wired into the car. Thx for your help.

What do u guys think about color? Now is the time to change it if it's gonna happen.

My vote is change the color to something/anything less common. You'll never be closer to the thing being stripped for a total color change. That's a huge expense otherwise. You have alot of work ahead regardless so.....
Hard for a red car to stand out unless maybe low mile concourse type.
I went Blue with my 87 (but red is still hiding under the dash, trunk, etc...) Make it something fun and it'll stand out if you go to sell.

Jessie. Thx spoke to a good friend today and he said da same thing. Too many kewl colors out there and if it's getting the turbo motor it needs wide fenders and wide tires so since it's getting flairs so whole body needs paint. Next step is picking out a color. That's a big big decision. Thx.

Color is so personal. I love the old cars in tangerine, signal green, signal orange, etc, and those might be good options. In the 80s cars, a flawless GR paint job would be pretty sweet, but so would white, Venetian Blue, White Gold, Petrol Blue, etc.

Oh, and the Gulf Blue/Orange livery is always sweet.

Wow for a second there I thought you stole my car. I just took my car to the painter today and it looked very similar although my engine is out. 76 911S euro spec.

I am going with Orange, exactly, what orange I am not positive but the shop I took it to just painted a 911 PPG Tangerine Orange and I really liked it. It is either Orange or a bright Green.

I am keeping the sunroof.

Whale tale as I have the Turbo Flares as well.

My two cents worth. Let us know what you decide.
