it's about what makes you happy. It's only money. I bought a '74 that was converted to 930 look because I planned on using it as a project car. I derive as much enjoyment from working on it in my garage as I do driving it. My chosen profession has me sitting in meetings and at my desk all day, my relaxation time is in the garage with the car on the lift tinkering with the suspension, or fixing little patches of rust, it's damn near therapeutic.

Exactly--
I personally like the "sorta" backdates that still have the impact bumpers. H4s, Chrome highlights, maybe some Pallas hood lights, wide 15-inch wheels. Simple, effective..easily reversible. |

I hate my kit car, I should never have turned my 73 into a 73 RSR. Now I can't stand going into my garage. That Ted guy is a bad influence and should be banned

Sometimes you buy an old 911 that's just begging to be backdated.

If you are a rich guy, go ahead and back date or up date. It does not matter.

Yup I agree. Build what you want. Unless youre car is all original and perfect than the next guy is probrobly going to build it the way he wants anyway. People usto say buy the newest car you can afford. People dont seem to say that anymore. Times change trends change cars can change too. Ted's car is a prime example of that. Its just metal and money.

Ironically my 73 was once updated to the look of an SC sometime in its life...like Teds, my car has lived many lives, but only one of the transformations while in my hands
That update probably saved its life at some point. I know that my re-backdate did ( that spanking idea sounds interesting...)

A friend of mine has frequently quoted a stastistic: " Porsche is the most owner modified car of any make"
I never investigated the statistical accuracy of his claim, but it sure seems plausible. |

I hate to admit it, but yes...you are right. Although it is a real 73, it is not a real 1973 2.8 RSR, and besides, although the engine is the spiritual successor to the 2.8, the short stroke real carerra 3.0 motor it holds is just wrong for 73...and I also use it on the street (Sigh...I'd better give up and give this car to Ted, I'll never get it right)
I'm going to stick to writing signatures instead, and hire Matt as my editor... ![]()
