85 Carrera shock recommendations
Winter project is to replace the original shocks on my '85 911. I'd like to keep the current stance (Height). Any recommendations on brand and type. If I can improve handling a bit I wouldn't mind but I don't want a kidney killer.... I don't track the car. Should i also do a sway bar upgrade? Any advice is appreciated.
BTW, I think I have Boge in now. |

Most go with the Bilstein HD or Sports. I used the heavy duty up front and sports in the rear. Ride height did change despite that many folks say it will not. The ride is very tight but not too rough, although I now constantly ***** about the crappy roads in the US.

I just noticed that Monroe shocks are on sale at Sears for under $18.

Simplest solution is to stick to the brand you have now. Upgrading to Bilsteins or Koni's, or changing brands requires new strut housings in the front.
But of course if price isn't an issue, anything goes. rjp

I believe your '85 will have Boge struts for which Bilstien inserts are available. I have Bilstien HD's all around and they are comfortable. Gas shocks like the Bilstiens will raise the car so you will have to reset the right height and align the car when you are done.
