Best Air Cooled Porsche Mechanic in San Francisco?

Anyone know the choices in the city of San Francisco? I've got several 911 projects and need to find a good mechanic in the city to work with. Someone who knows turbos well would be great.

I've tried the local mobile mechanics (Tom and Jimmy) who are real good but I need someone who's more readily available.

Thanks-
Craig Backer

When I had a PPI done by them back in 2000, it was $90 an hour. I'm sure its gone up some since then. I've never had any other work done by them, but they seemed very friendly and professional.

Here's their address and fone number:

I've had Tom work on my 88 930 cab. He's definetely very experienced and I'd certainly reccomend him if you're not in a hurry. The problem is, he's usually at least a couple of weeks out.

Charles Rossignol at 1480 Howard St, SF. He used to work at The Stable. Very knowledgeable and personable. I will no one else touch my 84 Carrera.

Hey Craig. Happy 2013.

I suggest pinging some of the PRC guys as well. You can use the PRC forums. Or better yet, come visit up at Sears Point.

Anyone have any experience with Heyer Performance in Mountain View? They seemed competent and did an oil change for me. It was expensive but they seemed very thorough.

I've used them a few times on my 70 911E a few times, did an oil change no big deal, but the big job was my clutch pivot bolt sheared off, they pulled the engine/tranny, fixed it and reinstalled for ~$750. Had to get the clutch adjusted once after that, no charge.

A couple of guys have mentioned Charles who used to work at the Stable. He's running his own one man shop now in the city. He's one of the most knowledgeable, honest and fair mechanics I've ever worked with. Guy has been working on air cooled cars since before I was born and knows his stuff. PM me if you need his info.

The prior owner of my '87 had it serviced for ~20 years at The Stable, but that's a bit of a hike for me. So, I've been taking it to RMG in Sunnyvale since acquiring it.

If you're willing to make the trip down to this neck of the woods, Bob and Dan are really fantastic.

I also recommend Tom Amon at mobile works west. he also has a little shop space you can drop the car off if your close enough. Spends lots of time to answer all my ridiculous questions and is very fair. His customer service is top notch.

Charles Rossignol is excellent, fair, and an all around good guy.
He PPI'd a Carrera for me, did a bunch of work, stuck to his bid, did some extras and i got an amazing car in return.
