Strange grille on 991 wolf pack
I dropped my kid off at camp this morning and saw a cluster of 991s on the freeway. All of them had Atlanta plates and a pair of odd antennae mounted to the back of their deck lids. They looked like 991 and 991 Turbo models, except for the odd vertical grille slats.
I know this is not air-cooled tech, but any ideas why the grilles would be different? ![]() (For reference, a 991 Turbo cab.)

I've read that all the 991.2 will be turbocharged. Base Carrera will be a 2.7L TT and engine size and performance level go up from there. It's all in the name of meeting fuel economy and emissions while maintaining performance. The Boxter and Cayman base will be a TT flat four, at least so I've read.

Turbochargers create heat - maybe they are testing varients with regard to venting all they extra heat in the engine bay?

I came across 4 black Porsche cars and 1 white Macan TDI. All with Georgia plates and all together, each with the antenna and a passenger with a laptop in front of them. Highway 101 at San Carlos going north towards SF.

Those are test mules, so the grilles could be prototypes, or just nonfunctional camoflage.
Porsche has employed the split grill in the past as a styling element on their higher performance cars, for example 993 C2S, to evoke the style of (as I recall) the 550 spyder, 356 Carrera, etc.

I think that's correct. There have been other pictures showing the vertical grille slats, also with closely-spaced exhaust outlets.

Those aren't your normal GA plates either.

And though it doesn't help with the grill question, those plates are pretty close in numerical order, too, if that matters at all - 2542A and 2568A...

You caught the 991.2 testing...
Engine lineup seems to be: Carrera - 2.7 twin turbo Carrera S 3.0 twin turbo And the vertical grilles are final. |

Completely unrelated but I ran into this last weekend. An under the radar Audi a4 e-Tron being tested.
From what I've read, Electric motors driving the rear wheels with over 400 total horsepower. ![]() Last edited by McLaren-TAG; 07-21-2015 at 05:55 AM.. |

Sure. Fine. I'll ask the question we are all actually thinking about.
What kind of truck are you driving Jack? CJ Jeep? Also, let's talk about patina. This is clearly next level. |

![]() That's my 1983 CJ7. Brown with some sort of stripe scheme painted on (maybe decals?). I've owned it for 22 years and it's never been garaged or washed. So yeah, there's some patina going on. ![]()
