H5 internal de-fog- easy and big improvement!
Following the lead of several prior posters, I pulled my headlights (amazingly quick and simply, screwdriver all that's needed) swished around some isopropyl and found that the horrible interior cloudyness is signficantly improved. Yet to drive at night, but there's no way this won't make things at least a bit better.
Does anyone know of a stock wattage bulb that is more efficient (lumens per watt) or otherwise an improvement ? Or a good Carrera fog light replacement that can be used legally as driving - ie low beams, not fog not flamethrowing off-roading? I know H4's are the conventional route but my headlights are in good shape and I'm not dying to spend the cash. ![]() ![]()

There r a gazillion posts on the subject of lense cleaning and different wattage bulbs so I won't go into any detail on either subject but u will find that the general conclusion is to just go with H4's. I haven't done this yet myself but it's on the list. Let us know whT u do.

Try Night Breakers Plus by Osram. They are the best standard bulbs with little to no dead spots.

Thanks - I believe the H5's are now called 9007's or HB5, is that right? If so I see a few options purported to be an improvement over stock. The bulbs I found in the lamps had no identifying marks so I'm guessing they're no-names. Can't find a site with the night breaker plus in that size...

Okay after looking closely at one of the bulbs I pulled and reading this http://candlepowerinc.com/pdfs/9004_9007.pdf
I believe the correct bulb is the 9004. Can someone confirm that the horizontal filaments are correct? Thanks ![]()

Thanks
I just went down a 9004 bulb review rabbit hole and came out with the Phillips Vision Plus. I'll report back.

When the trim ring is reassembled should it have an even offset to the glass all around? Is the best way to reassemble it to hook it on at the top then push it down all around? Any pics?
Thanks

I have these:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00067BVZK?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage I think the 4000K temp really improves perceived output. I had tried an HID kit but I could not get them aimed correctly. I hope that link works. Edit: I just read the description. It says blue tint but the light is not blue in the least. It is a nice white light. |

First night drive after my headlight clean / bulb replacement... not hugely impressed. I get the distinct impression they are aimed too low. Owners manual and Bentely tell you how to adjust the beam but offer no guidelines about what height is appropriate. Anyone have a diagram or procedure appropriate to an H5 equipped car?

You can aim them on a wall (google it, got to be many descriptions on how to do it) or just pick a deserted road, cover one side at a time, and aim them until you get the best illumination. Usually, the best imllumination for the low beam will render the high beam less effective, and vice versa.
Fool around with the H5 all you want. Regardless of how clean you get them, which bulbs you run, you'll never be happy with their light output. Buy a set of ROW H4 lights, or back date it with sugar scoops and the H4 lights that fit those. JR |
