carerra starting issue
My son has an 85 carerra and is having a starting problem. Initially when turning the car over the solenoid would click but not start. Ended up pushing the car and jump started with no problem. Replaced the stater with a rebuilt unit and had the same problems. Returned the rebuilt unit and bought new Bosch starter. Ran fine for a while now doing the same thing. Keeps tuning the ignition switch, getting clicking at starter then would start fine after numerous attempts. Been trying to read up on this forum for ideas. Is it bad battery, ignition switch, yellow wire to solenoid, ground problems? Any thoughts would help. He also has a problem where there seems to be a draw on the battery. He shuts the battery off with battery switch every time he is not driving it. He had the battery tested where he bought it in the beginning of the season and it was fine. Thanks Jerry

I currently have the same problem on 89 3.2L and turns out it's the ignition switch itself.

After starting fine for the last 6 weeks, the car started doing the same thing, turn the ignition switch, hear a click in the rear of the car, assume its the selinoid. Won't start. All grounds have been checked, connections checked. Any ideas? This happened on Wednesday after driving it all day, then brought it in to his work to be washed and detailed. After detailing wouldn't start. We push started and popped the clutch it to get it started, which started fine, but has not started on its own since!

Or replace the ground strap as they can be bad from corrosion but look OK. If you just want to clean the connections for starters (excuse pun) I recommend using a Dremel with wire wheel as you can get everything very bright and clean fast. Coat with dielectric grease to keep moisture and debris out.

See if you can get a meter on the power wire of the starter and actually measure the power irs getting. It sounds like maybe nit getting enough juice to fire the starter.

Definitely sounds like a ground issue. Cracked cables can hide corrosions not visible, would suggest a digital meter and some trouble shooting for excessive draw.
"new" Bosch starter? SR68X? Not likely, they are all remans unless someone had one on the shelf NOS.
