Spring Plate Color/Finish

Were the spring plates painted, or just left yellow cad plated from the factory in '76?

Thanks much ... I thought that was the case, but I see so many of them painted I was not sure.

I am just about to plate my spring plates.

Is it cad plated, or zinc plated?

WAS cad plated originally, but because of environmental issues (heavy metals) it is harder to find cad platers now. Yellow zinc works great, though, and looks good.
Here are my recently yellow zinc plated spring plates...

Who did the plating for you ? They look great. I need to plate also the spring plates, and some other parts, for my 70 911T

Thanks
Engelbert

I use EPI, in Clinton Twp., Michigan. They are very reasonable. I also had them do all of the small parts on my engine (brackets, etc.) when I rebuilt it this past winter. Great work. I am sure you can ship your stuff to them. Just give them a call. +1 866 554-3431. Electroplating Industries, Inc.
As they will tell you, just be sure parts are relatively clean when you send them. Even though they will do an acid dip, it's better if you have them clean to begin with.
Good luck.
Lyle.

Gold zinc, and make sure all bolts, threads etc are cleaned on a wire wheel, for the larger parts such as spring plates sandblasting for preparation is the go.

How do you keep this plating looking fresh? Mine always dull after a year or two.

At least through 73 the spring plates and torsion bar housings were black. You can powder coat for durability.

I have given parts/pieces that have been anodized or zinc coated a couple of coats of clear-coat and it has stayed on very well. If they say get stone chipped, clear coat is easy to sand so as to clear-coat them again if required. I have never had to do so.
