brake lite switch

1981 911sc

I have to push the brake pedal pretty far to make the brake lights go on. The Switch is on the master cylinder. Is it ajustable? Can I take it out and repair or need to replace it? If I need to take it out, are there brake fluid issues?

Switches are not repairable. They're easy to replace, and not that expensive.
If done right (push brake pedal down and hold w/2X4) you don't have to bleed brakes, but I would, just to be on the safe side. There may be a tiny amount of fluid dribble. Keep a rag nearby and don't get brake fluid on anything painted.
Check through the archives there is a mass of posts about this very question.

There are two seperate switches on the m/c on my 86. Not sure if it is the same on yours but I assume it is. Just replace both. There is no repair of these as far as I know. Make sure to look at the switch to see if it is 2 or 3 prong. Some years had both. You can see the prongs on the side of the m/c.
You can buy them here.
