Front Seat Removal; How?
1976 911S Targa.
I would like to remove the front seats to clean and lube the rail so the seats slide easy. Is removing the seats the best way to clean and lube the rail? If yes, how are the seats removed? Thanks |

The slide part is in the rail part that is attached to the bottom of the seat. I've never cleaned them in 36 years, and have found that "stickiness" is caused by misalignment of the bolts that hold the seat in place.
["Back" and "forward" may be reversed in this description. Take the first step, and if you can't see the bolts, reverse "back" and "forward" and try again!] There are four bolts per seat. Slide the seat fully forward, lean the seat back forward, and you will see the 6mm bolt at the aft end of the seat rail. Remove them. Then slide the seat all the way back, and you will see the forward bolts holding the seat to the rail. Remove them, then remove the seat. Misalignment occurs when you reinstall, reversing the process above. When you slide the seat back and forth with only two bolts installed, you may twist the seat a little, which binds the sliding part of the rail, causing a stickiness. |

Thanks.
These seats have never been removed. Possibly they should be left alone but have the rails oiled. Can one spritz WD40 to loosen things up a bit? |
