Engine bay hot
Hopefully this isn't too much of a lame question? I have a 1986 Porsche 911 targa. It's my second 86 911 targa that I have owned. It seems like the engine compartment is very warm after driving. The temp guage reads normal and seems to function properly. Just wondering if this is normal, or should I be checking something? Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Sounds normal. If the oil temperature is in safe range there should not be a problem.

Get a cheap hand held pyrometer, lots of uses. Shoot the oil lines, engine underneath and the bay. They all should be close together and you can validate the oil temp gauge. If you don't have number on the face they can be found under the bezel one the left side, you will likely have to convert from Centigrade.

On a 90dF day, the rear lid A/C condenser fins rose to 181dF (contact thermometer) within about 5 minutes of engine shutdown. A/C had not been run.

Have you check to make sure your heater tubes/plumbing is in order or the blower?

Make sure to plug the holes in your engine bay so the heat from the exhaust doesn't get in. I have about 7 holes I need to plug

^^^, yeah that's right.
If you are missing these 911-504-930-00 "Straps" aka Foam Blocks, it could let in excess heat into the engine bay.
