Cyclops Light Help
Does anyone have any suggestions for finding the problem with my cyclops light (third brake light).
Bulb is ok, no voltage to the light with brake applied. Standard brake lights working fine. Is there an additional brake switch for the cyclops light? Hopefully someone has solved this already so I can save some time debugging. Thanks in advance. |
Had the same problem on my '88. Traced it to a 2 prong rubber connector in the engine compartment, driver's side below the wing nut/black plastic cover just aft of the coil. Previous owner had disconnected it for whatever reason. Plugged ends back together and it works fine. (Note: I have the interior light at the top of the rear window; don't know what 86's have but the connector might still be the same as there's a good chance yours also ultimately connects to the left rear taillight assembly).

Argo,
Thanks for the tip, but that connector is OK. I cleaned the terminals and replugged, but still no cyclops light. I'll trace further, unless someone else has a tip. |
check the voltage at that plug. it will give you a sense of direction.

It was a disconnected three prong connector in the same area. Appears that this connector may also carry the current for the rear window defogger.
I've got to get me a wiring diagram. Argo, perhaps it was the same connector you were referring to. Thanks! |
