Diluting Oil with Injector Cleaner
I have been using Chevron Techron for many years and I believe its a great injector cleaner. I also recallthe PCA was praising the stuff as well; however a long time ago Porsche put out in one of its service bulletins that Techron should be used 500-1000 miles before an oil change because it could impact seals.
I know this stuff does not combust but washes the injectors and cylinders before it makes it way to the pan. I could smell the stuff on my dip stick everytime I used it in my 944. The big questions are: When you consider that the 911 oil capacity is generally 10+ quarts, why would Porsche be so concerned about seals considering the dilution factor here? I want to use the stuff at least twice per 5k miles before an oil change, so whats the big deal? Are the engine seals exposed to that stuff that sensitive to the distillate? Regards Bob |

Bob,
Remember that Chevron gas has the same additive in it and Porsche nor any of the other makers tell us to stay away from the fuel. Granted its in a lot lower concentration than what we are talking about when putting a can into the tank but over a period of months it would add up... Something to think about. If it was really that bad I would think that Chevron would have had lots of lawsuits on their hands by now. Joe
