Heat Options
Living in the south, I don't need the heat to fry an egg, just take the chill off. Having just purchased and installed, I don't want to pull the headers (Rarlyl8) to install the heater boxes, getting lazy, so I was wondering if anyone has ever bypassed the heater boxes (run duct hose from shroud to under engine by valve covers then back to flap boxes), relying on the heat running across the hot engine, as well as the headers/engine heating up the high temp duct hose to heat the air coming into the cabin?
I've posted this on the 930 forum, but since the theory is the same for a 911, I figured I'd get a wider audience over here....any thoughts? Would the above provide warm air? tim

I guess you can plumb directly from your fan shroud, pass where your exchangers would have been and then up to your boxes. Just get some Orange Aircraft hoses and clamps. Tie off with zip ties???
It won't get super hot but warm enough, I guess.

Thanks, parts and route are not the question, understand and have all the parts, just wondering if anyone has ever tried this and result....

I prototyped a system a couple of years back. It sourced warm air from the engine bay, combined with a 400W electric PTC heater in each footwell blower (total 800W). I'm afraid to say it just wasn't warm enough when the outside air temperature was below about 10 deg C.
The main issue is that the more air flow you have, the cooler the air feels. |

Some people have reported using 12 volt hair dryers where the front fans are in the foot wells.

I've talked to Brian and he's given me an excellent suggestion that he has actually verified. Run some 2.5 alum flex tube thru the headers. Clamp to header pipes with some worm clamps so the heat is transferred to the tubes then connect the duct hose on both ends to fan shroud and heater boxes. Said it works great.
