What's wrong with Pelican Parts and shipping to Canada?
I've ordered before and it was no issues. I just made an order and it's total FUBAR.
The website clearly states it has some parts in stock (specifically the cool Motolita (sp) steering wheel and hub). But I make my order (express delivery) and no word back. Ok, so I contact Pelican, and they say they are back ordered. No worries, I can wait. Wait and wait, and I decide to randomly email them. Ta da! The minute I email, they have them magically in stock and my order is shipped! Yes! Well, no order 6 days later! (I paid for 3 day shipping). SO I email and ask for a tracking number, guess what? My order is not shipped afterall! Why? Because Pelican can't ship oil via mail? What a load of BS! I just ordered Oil from the USA via Fedex. And why wasn't I told before? I have to email everytime? They didn't even email saying they were not shipping the order due to 'hazmat' reasons, they just held the order. I cancelled my order, good waste of 3 weeks of prime summer driving! Thank you Pelican! |

How far from a U.S. Border crossing are you?
If an hour or so like 90% of the population of Canada, it may be worthwhile to get a P.O. Box in the closest town over the border and make the pilgrimage to go get your packages when they are there. Lots of people do it.

I have over 100 orders with Pelican with no problem.
Mind you none of them cross the border as i pick up the stuff 50 minutes away in New York. I have not seen the warning in my last few orders but they use to discourage using UPS of Fedex across the border as they are known as the biggest Brokerage Fee Ripper there is. Unfortunately you don't have too much choice. If you have a local Porsche dealer, with todays exchange rate and a 10% discount if you are a PCA member it maybe be cheaper. If you want to buy from Pelican and ship across the border, forget the online ordering and call them, and ask for delivery in Canada via USPS as they will not gouge you. Their delay and your cancellation is actually a blessing in disguise.

Second on steering clear of ups due to unreasonable brokerage fees. You can negate those by refusing the package and self brokering through your closest customs office btw, but a huge pain.
I have ordered a few times through pelican to Calgary and have never had an issue, was offered an order split or hold when my order was partially back ordered and that cAme in due course. From my experiences I would say yours are an aberration and surprising.

Sounds like an issue you should be discussing over the phone, rather than on a public forum run by Pelican.
I have always found Pelican to be very helpful, not infallible, no one is. I can sympathize, my Pelican syncros were at Canada Post once, but their computer was down, so I couldn't pay. They would not let me take the parts until the computer was fixed.
