Fuel gauge half working
Among the plethora of things my PPI missed on my newly purchased '82 SC, is that the the fuel gauge only half works. I removed the sender to see how it looked, and it is clean and free of any grit. The float moves smoothly up and down the wires. So I used it to test the gauge, and the gauge reads correctly above 1/2 way up. But anywhere below half the needle stops moving. It looks like the "empty" light works, so at least I can tell when I'm running on fumes. Does it sound like a new gauge is needed, or is there some other magic fix?

Order a new gasket and remove the sending unit in the tank.
Inspect for residue on the two sliding wires, use cleaner and carefully clean it. But prior to that check the OHMs to insure it is within tolerances.

Here you go a recent repair: Fuel Sender is fine. Open fuel gauge itself?

I wouldn't run the car until "you are on fumes" as the fuel pump uses fuel to cool itself. Tad less than 1/4 tank or when the low fuel light just starts to flash and it's time to gas up.
