Turn signal cancel adjust ?

The turn signals work fine on my 81 sc, except that after a left turn, I have to exaggerate the steering wheel correction to the right a bit, before the auto canceling of the switch kicks in.

Is this an adjustment ? or is a replacement part needed ?

Thanks for any feedback !

It is built into the hub of the steering wheel and if yours is far off you may have to move the steering wheel by one notch on the column and see if it solves THAT problem.
Then check if your front wheels are going straight when your steering wheel is "straight". If you are lucky that is the end of it. Else you will probably have to adjust your tie rods and wheel alignment. In that case you may want to decide if it is worth it or if you can leave with your current issue...

The turn signal lever has a spring on each side to help with this. When I installed a new lever I unknowingly nudged one of the springs which disconnected it. I ended up with the same behavior for canceling the side that the spring was disconnected on.

If one side works and the other does not work as well .... but does sometimes work with a little "English" as they say ... Your probably in luck ... Go buy a can of corrosion X..... Careful though.... you will like this stuff so much you might want to drink some for your own body parts.... P.s. You can just spray it into the switch and it will be fine . Or you can go all out and pull the wheel clean things up.... Probably don't need to though..... bob

Thanks for the advice and insight folks.

As always, I will start with the simplest and least expensive actions first. That spring sounds interesting ....

The spring thing does happen .... but when it does you will know because that one side will be "dead"... not responsive under any circumstances ... yours , If I understand you, works reluctantly /intermittently ... So.... it is dirty and or needs lubricant.... It's not a matter of adjustment ....There is no adjustment.... bob

I had my turn signal cancel feature go weird on me once after I had been in there (sanding the corrosion off the little metal contacts for the highbeams). Can't recall if it was to the left or the right. But I took off the steering wheel to get to the switch in the steering column, fiddled around with it, and it all came back to work again. They're plastic indents or something like that, IIRC, so I suppose they could wear enough with time to necessitate replacement. I think mine was just hung up on something or other. A little cleaning did the trick.

On the back of the steering wheel hub, there is a ring with a perpendicular tab (sticking out) that operates the canceler switch. On my '80 SC, a previous owner had screwed that ring in the wrong position which resulted in the canceling happening on different angles left and right.

flashers cancelling

please refer to response # 8....the plastic part with the raised tab should be placed so that the tab is at 9 o'clock and the steering wheel is dead center.

Right Turn Signal Release Triggers Brights (when lights are on)

with my headlights on - when my right turn signal releases after the turn, my brights automatically come on (every time) it is odd and annoying - has anyone ever seen this before?
