Oil Hard Line Mounting Brackets on 69T?

Hi,

I have some hard lines from a later 911. I'm getting ready to order the 3 factory brackets to mount the hard line to the car. Is the car pre-drilled for these holes, or do I need to fabricate something to mount them?

You will have to fabricate 3 small sheet metal standoffs along the structural rocker panel area, plus a threaded stud on the inner rear wheel housing. The two clampss in the front wheel housing just use drilled holes. You will need to fab. brackets for the front cooler mounting. You may have a clearance issue with the oil line in the rear wheel housing area. None of this is difficult.

You can buy the factory arches and weld them on. I chose to use a Rivnut tool on my 73 and put 3 M6 (IIRC) threaded inserts in the rocker and used the factory M clamps. Then on the vertical and fender rail.

Here's the only pics I have. Not original, but professional. Last pic mocked up.

The Rivnut Idea might be the most elegant and simple way to the result. Thanks guys.

I used the rivet nut too. But I used the stock clamps and a little spacer between the rivet and clamp.

Drilled the holes, a little POR15, and riveted while the paint was wet.

A fellow Pelican E Sully (thank you Ed) posted this photo a while back, and its a great idea to help locate these oil hardlines on an early car. We are making some up ourselves..........

Probably too late to help with your install Mike, but someone else may need a few in the future.

I wanna watch this spot. I'm waiting to see Len's shots of these in action.

We started this by fitting the rearmost tab to support the hardlines & thermostat while a friend held them at the front.

Then used a nutsert at the point above the front shock as Shaun and others have done. (Top photo in post #3)

It turns out the mounting tabs are good for the rearmost point but are too wide for the forward point along the rocker, so I am going to a 6mm nutsert for that one.

The used hardlines I have are a little tweaked so am now attempting to correct the fitment along the front fender closing panel. The early 70s cars have one with a curved face, where all the later ones are flat.

This curved face puts the hardlines about an inch further to the front which complicates things. It makes for less room at the rear where the thermostat is located.

Will post more photos as we progress.

Hope this helps a bit.

Len

Could not use the mounting tab at the front, so went with a 6mm "nutsert", and that worked out well..........

These used and abused hardlines took a fair amount of work tweaking and correcting the previous damage caused by errant floor jacks (Note previous photo above with the white circles). They were quite a bit out of shape, but fit nicely now.

Since I have collected a good many "used & abused" hardlines over the past 40+ years, its time to make a fixture to lay them out properly so the install will be much easier the next time.

One more mounting point will be done at the center, then its up in the front fenderwell.

More photos to come as I progress. Once everything fits as intended I will clean & Paint them to be more presentable. Function is the priority here.

I went the rivnut route and added plastic spacers as well. I started thinking I'd use 5 brackets but dialed it back to 3. Hopefully these pics show enough about what I did.

Heres a shot of the front using the nutsert method........

Got the lines cleaned up a bit and will now tackle the fitment at the fender well and the missing M30 Male fitting for the return hardline. Easy to make up for this by making up a longer return hose from the cooler.

Another shot with the center mount being located. Used clamps will be sandblasted & everything painted black as original.

Lot of work to make the used & abused hardlines straight & presentable.
