I find nothing here impressive. Asshat driving on a public road, narrowly destroying a vintage MB. Just not acceptable in any way. Thanks Magnus for perpetuating the view of 911 drivers as aggressive and the cars as dangerous. Not cool in any way.

Jalopnik is reporting that as his own transport truck.

This^^^^^^^^^^^^........

Before I saw that video I believed it was his car being backed into.
I gotta agree with your comment.

Wet road, transporter blocking one lane. Glad it didn't turn out worse.

Not a wet road. LUCKY the Mercedes gave his fish out of water flopping ass some extra room. I think he likes R -comps on the street, (And the pic sure looks like R- comps) but...for those who have never raced on R comps, let me tell ya, they are night and day cold vs hot. I would never use them on the street. Fun when hot, sure, but who needs 1.2Gs on the street when you finally get them up to temp, and .6 when they are cold..(Most of the time)
He had a reporter in the car. He's LUCKY she is OK.

I'm with JL, not cool. And 100% on him.

Accidents happen and I'm glad it wasn't worse than it was.

I find no reason to be a Magnus Hater - he reminds me of me.

Gotta say I agree that it was wholly in appropriate speed given the volume of traffic.
For such a smart aficionado, he should have known better.
For most non-enthusiast, driving slowly in an air cooled 911 is a treat, no need to for excess speed.

I am shocked at the amount of damage, thinking twice about ever putting my kids in it ever again.

I don't know him but being somewhat of a public figure, is he known to be reckless? I haven't got that impression. I'm just glad none of the many stupid things I've done have not been caught on camera. None of them seemed that bad - in the moment. A momentary lapse of judgement? I'm sure that's never happened to anybody here. If we multiply our notoriety by our boneheaded moves, I'm sure most of us would be happy to live in relative obscurity.

The truck is visible when he pulls out of the parking lot and remarkably, it's still there when he comes flying around the corner into on coming traffic like a complete idiot.

That gets an award.

You should really delete that^^^^^^^^^it's uncalled for. We can criticize the driving , but by all accounts I hear Magnus is a stand up guy. Really no need for that .

Nope. Magness came to this board and promoted his business. He never answered anyone's questions. And now this??

Seriously, all you Magness Fan-Boys need a reality check.

I posted this to the top of page 6 in the other thread 'it will buff out'... here it is again.

I've been very hesitant to post anything, anywhere, but now that the video is out (and I'm glad it is, as the speculation was over the top) I'm the guy in the black Mercedes.... hopefully I can put some of the speculation, about the fate of my car, to rest... the 250SL was COMPLETELY untouched... despite what it may sound like, or look like, in the video, it was absolutely unscathed.

I kept this brief on purpose. I was looking forward to seeing #277 and Magnus when I heard he was in town Monday morning.

You don't have to agree with the certificate but they have their opinion and a firm leg to stand on. Doing an event like that and coming around a corner needing the other side of the yellow line to make it is pretty irresponsible. On canyon runs and road trips I get really pissed with the guys that just have to use more then their own lane on blind or close to blind corners just because they want to feel racey with their lines. you can drive just as close to the limit by using the center line as an imaginary brick wall as you can using the whole road. (Especially when I am stuck behind them...)
The difference is you won't have to do a heroic adjustment just because someone is going the other way doing exactly what you expect them to be doing.

Magnus screwed up big time at an event where no one had safety equipment, the media had cameras rolling, and he had a passenger in the car. The only possible excuse I could see for it would be if someone had dropped oil or if they had been told the road was closed for opposing traffic.

-------------------
Oh and as far as the idea that R compound tires have less grip then regular street tires when cold...
Huh? (.6G? Really?) Maybe if it was 35° out or you had Hoosers that had been cycled so far out as to be comical. R comps have more grip on dry asphalt at normal temps then your high performance street tires.
Auto-X times prove that. The street tire guys have zero chance even on the first run where there is no heat in the tires. Yeah they have less grip then when warmed up but that is still more then a cold street tire. (Probably an observation from a person that thinks their car accelerated when they went off track sliding onto the grass. If grass made a car with no grip suddenly accelerate then dragsters would have grass injectors in front of the tires.)

I don't know - it looks like someone screwed up. There was a camera crew set up on that corner.

I wonder if someone was supposed to have closed that road?

Its comments like this that keep Magnus from coming to this board, posting and answering questions. i don't think he has ever promoted his business, he just promoted his Porsche Passion, something i assume we all have.

Theres not too many questions here, most people are just pointing fingers and calling him names like a 4th grader, because you all are such top notch boy scouts.

I certainly wouldn't feel welcomed if people were treating me like that. What did he do to you?

its human nature for some to hate on successful people , and jump all over them as soon as they make a mistake .. At the end of the day it was a mistake , we all make them , and some are serious and some are not .

Lighten up guys .

As far as the actual crash goes it was kind of interesting, looks like the classic lift issue and the back started to come around, but where did he think he was going to go , he HAD to lift as there was no road. he is just VERY lucky that lift on the back of that truck was all the way up , half way and the result would have been far more gruesome.
