another door stop repair question
I read all the threads on that topic with great interest and am about to tackle the jop myself.
Question: If the new door stops are so powerfull that the high spots have to be reduced, why not use the existing "softer" unit if it still works correctly. That way I just have to order the repair kit ! Any thouights on that ? CHEERS ! WITT ! PS: I posted the same question at the end of an older thread, thought best to start a new one. |

The older stops are so worn that the door will reach the endpoint with little resistance and really jolt the hinges causing damage. The new hinges are too resistant and can make the hinges "pop- pop" also causing damage to where the hinges attach to the cotter pin and inside the door. When u do the upgrade but the door reinforcement kit sold by our host. All of this destroyed my door jam!

Door stops
I just installed two door stops from our host with the reinforcing kit on my 79' and had no issues with them being to stifff. I did use the silicone grease that came with the kit. I opened and closed them multiple times after applying the grease and they work perfectly. Not to stiff and the middle detent stops them from going all the way to the end and pulling them out of the door. Before there was no resistance and they would just fly open stressing the door sheet metal.

Another reason for new stays is that the plastic end stops on the original ones are most likely broken/deteriorated/missing which then can let the door open even widen possibly impinging upon the wiring that runs from the tub to the door. Regards.
