Help with my new '75 911s No Spark, newly rebuilt CDI, what next?
Hey guys after having a 79 928 for a while I got the bug and took the plunge into my first 911, a '75 2.7S model that was a great price / Craigslist find, but it has been sitting for 7 years...
After cleaning the car, engine, and tank for a few weeks , and having my CDI box rebuilt, I'm finally ready to try to get her to fire. We have fuel pressure at the CIS injector module , I have 12 V to the CDI box, I installed new spark plug wires, and the plugs themselves look ok,the coil measures on the primary and secondary correctly, but no spark is present... The car unfort has had the dreaded Car alarm deluxe wiring harness molestation technique, which is daunting to say the least, but at this point I hear the fuel pump running, I hear the CDI whine, engine is turning over sounding like it's ready to wake up for the first time in a while, but zero spark.. Not sure where to troubleshoot next, any help greatly appreciated, Love this place, thanks much in advance- |

Fuel pressure?
Spray some ether into the intake. If it fires, It;s likely fuel pressure. Get some gauges.

Re: No spark at the coil lead.
Assuming the alarm is not interfering. I would bet your points are not doing there job, usually because they are dirty. Gap @ .017 and most important, CLEAN. After checking/setting the point gap, turn the motor until the points are now closed. Open closed points with a tool and place a new/clean @ 1/4th in. wide, thick paper [like a cut off end of a business card] between the open points and let points close. Then slowly draw the strip of card out. Keep doing this until the strips shows no signs of dirt. Use a new strip each time you clean the points. |

awesome, thanks for the tips, now we have spark
Finally got spark at around 3:30 am, after rewiring this alarm hack job and cleaning all grounds, points, etc...spraying connections with Deoxit, removing corrosion where possible-
almost fired up, but now i guess i'm looking at dirty injectors, low pressure, etc- Will try more tomorrow, any pointers appreciated! |

With the ignition switch to run, check for fuel by, after removing the air filter, lifting the air sensor plate for a second or two. You should hear the squeal of the injectors dispensing fuel. No noise? No fuel. If you hear fuel from the injectors, your cold start injector may not be properly connected. You may be able to start the car with an assistant turning the key to the start position while you lift the air sensor plate. This injects fuel in the absence of a functioning cold start valve, possibly giving a rich enough mixture to start for a few seconds.

Be careful not to lift the plate too long. You can flood the cylinders and get hydraulic lock.
