Removing tranny form engine

In some docs that I have read, to separate the tranny from the engine you simply take off the starter and then undo the boldts which secure the engine to the transmission. That's what it also looks like I should do. But in the Haynes manual it states that

4. On cars built after 1970, unbolt and remove the starter motor and then turn the flywheel until the first of the three rivet heads comes into view through the starter motor aperture.
5. Obtain or make up sleeves or distance collars and then screw a socket-headed screw through the first spacer sleeve into the threaded bore of the rivet. Tighten the screw with an Allen key which will relieve the tension of the clutch relase bearing.
6. Repeat these operations on the remaining two rivets after having turned the flywheel to bring them into view one by one.
7. Doesn't appy to me.
8. With the release bearing tension relieved, insert a screwdriver into the aperture in the transmission casing and prise the release bearing so that it turns through 90 degrees. The clutch release lever end fork can now be withdrawn past the release bearing.
9. Unbolt and remove the transmission from the engine.

Now I haven't taken off the starter yet but I'm having a hard time visualizing what they mean. Like I said in other books that I have read you simply unbolt it. What are these other steps for? Do I need to do these?

Sorry about the long post.

Forget the Haynes. Remove the levers on the bottom of the transmission. As you pull the transmission off the engine, rotate the shaft counter clockwise (looking down from above).
