Yes, please have a look at the Ultimate Oil Thread posting.
Oil is so subjective a topic that it is a bit of a third rail on this 'Board. As a rule, go with an oil whose content supports direct tappet operation as seen in our air-cooled cars. Generally Brad Penn or Valvoline VR-1.

Keep it simple.......

Morde, Make your decision easy and simple. You could not go wrong using these oil brands (Brad Penn or Valvoline VR-1). Like what had been said it is very subjective. There are other oil brands people use and their choices vary. Each of these brand names are formulated differently using an assortment of petroleum additive products. We could spend days arguing its merits and at the end you will be more confused. Take a deep breathe and decide. Tony Last edited by boyt911sc; 09-28-2015 at 09:15 AM.. |

Since VR1 can't be found on sale anymore and stocked up, my next change will likely be Shell Rotella.

![]() 10-30 might be good at extended use below zero but it is never recommended for any normal use in an air cooled 911. Use 20-W50 (or 15-W50 in the synthetics that are recommended.) The two common recommendations already listed: Brad Penn or VR1 Other useful choices are Motul, Royal Purple, and Redline. (A little more polarization on this list...) Brad Penn is the first oil I have seen that gives a noticeable improvement in wear when you run it through oil analysis. (I haven't tried VR1. Why bother after seeing what Brad Penn does?)
